Cora (5) came home from Pre-K a while back talking about her boyfriend named Jacob . This rocked along for a few months. Jacob this, Jacob that. I speak to Jacobs dad fairly regularly and we get a little chuckle out of it here and there (he more than me). Well, he finally gave me the news I've been waiting to hear. "Jacob said Cora broke up with him". Trying to contain my joy I said "hmm I'll have to ask her about that". I asked her that afternoon and she said "yeah I broke up with him because he spends to much time with his friends and I just won't put up with that"

I'm kinda thinking a shot gun might be a good wedding present for the groom when time comes with this one. She might be a bit demanding

Thendrix, this is what I did.
A few years back a boy showed up and said him needed to ask me something.
I put a loaded 20ga in his belly and said ask away.
It took him a few minutes, but his now my son-in law.
Had to see if he had the backbone to put up with her.

My in-laws didn't do any of that stuff. When I went to ask for Danielle's hand her daddy looked at her mama and she said "I'll be proud to have you as my son in law but if you hit her I'll kill you". There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that she meant what she said. I didn't get it then but I do now

There's nothing wrong with that.  Loaded gun pointed at anyone, is crossing a line in my book.......could still just be "metaphorically".........

I was all of 21 when I went to talk to my future mother and father in law.  I was 6'1", but on the scrawny side.  He was 300 lb with hands the size of my head.  He knew I was helping my Dad with a rather major barn repair, so when I called to see if he was around so I could come ask him a question, he thought I wanted to ask him about the barn.  I asked, broad grin came across his face, "Man, you must be from the old school!  I didn't think anyone asked about this anymore! Hahaha....Well, yeah, that'd be alright."  Mother law just says, "Oh good!" and hugged me.

That was a while ago....and a while since I've been "scrawny".

It was just 4 1/2 years ago. And if he went crying to his mama, she would of hit him up the side of the head.
He started hanging around when he was 6. Then it took him 20 years to get up the nerve to ask. My daughter is 5 years younger than him.
And yes, it was a loaded 20ga. #7 1/2 buckshot.
My grandfather did about the same thing to my father also.

LOL!!!Wink  I know they do things a little differently in the south, so let's do a little math.  She's 5 years younger than him, so she was 1 when he started hanging around.  I'm guessing it's a GOOD thing at least 17 of those years went by getting up the nerve!LOL

People around here don't do that......it's not so much about nerve as it is about gun safety, respect for human life if even that of your worthless future son in law, Michigan penal code, and a little courtesy if nothing else.

Well dammit. I shouldn't have said anything. I picked Cora up today and she said "Jacob is my boyfriend again. He decided he'd rather hang out with me".

I know they're 5 and it means nothing but it still sticks me in the craw just a little. Far as I'm concerned they're all little bastards

Tbone,
This is not the south, this is EASTERN KY.
On gun safety, the safety was on and my finger was not on the trigger.
And here, there is a boat load of reason you can justifiably shot someone and because of that, very few people take a chance on getting shot.
The northern/out of state druggies (MI,OH) are our biggest problem.
And my son-in-law is not quite worthless, he is a D3 head coach.

First time I went over to meet my future wife's parents the first thing he said to me is "There are two things not allowed on this farm. One is Fords and the other is motorcycles".

I just happened to be on a motorcycle. 😬😬😬. Thank goodness I was already from a Chevrolet family so for the most part I always came in the farm truck from that point on.😆

Tbone,
This is not the south, Yeah it is.  this is EASTERN KY. I used to live SE corner OH, so I have a pretty good visual.
On gun safety, the safety was on and my finger was not on the trigger. That ain't how I was taught.  You can think you're "funny", or "making a point", I see it as you put a gun in someone's belly that you've known since he was 6.  Makes 0 sense to me in any situation.
And here, there is a boat load of reason you can justifiably shot someone and because of that, very few people take a chance on getting shot. Well, basically the same here.
The northern/out of state druggies (MI,OH) are our biggest problem.  Me too!  It sucks around here!LOL
And my son-in-law is not quite worthless, he is a D3 head coach.  Was said in irony....exactly part of why you wouldn't do what you did.

I am an old fart now but my first "Love" was Diane in K grade. She and I were inseparable in class, took our nap beside each other and always played together at recess. Stayed that way into third grade, her Dad was in the USAF her mom a Hawaiian and as he was redeployed to Germany mid third grade she vanished then in fourth we moved. Years later my Best Friend all those years that I grew up with let me know she was back in my old hometown, her parents were happiest there and returned as her Dad retired from AF duty to work at McDonnell aircraft. At 17 she was still cute and still my memory Diane but also engaged to a nice guy also a friend in the old days. Spring forward to present, she is still there, and a neighbor to my own niece(couple doors down), does not know me from Adam anymore but to me her face was unmistakable as is her name. Divorced, kids all grown and gone, live in 'Boyfriend' and now a BEHEMOTH, well over 250lbs, just a BIG woman. Still a memory I treasure from childhood.

I told my daughter, from the time she was just over knee high, that she could start dating TWO DAYS after she was married.

Big smile

She used to be a bit timid.  Now she's a soccer goalie, in Olympic Development Program, and fears NOBODY.  She's exceptional with a compound bow, excellent with a rifle, and very capable with a shotgun, loves animals, and is a bit TOO confident behind the wheel.  I don't think I'll ever hafta put a shotgun in some boy's belly to get a point across... I highly suspect that when he DOES get around it, his greatest risk will be asking HER, not ME! LOL

Now, that said... My Son (now 17) was downstairs watching a movie with a female friend about three years ago.  I was passin' through (needed some tools from my radio/electronics room), I stopped there, introduced myself... and I told her "Only one thing that I need to say here... that is... if my SON comes home Pregnant, you're in BIG TROUBLE...

(the look of confusion on her face, and the look of embarrassment on his, was PRICELESS!!!)  Evil SmileLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOL
