Just got the B back up and running again, changed the trans fluid after I
got it running with 303, I'm having trouble with the hydraulic pump
holding the plow up, it wants to release the hydraulic cylinder, it
wants to hold it up part of the time and when it doesn't pushing the
lever down and releasing pressure for about 3-4 seconds then raising it
back up will cause it to hold. Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is the original pump on my '39 B. Daniel |

Had a similar problem on my 49 B. Take pump off and flush with a good solvent, if that don,t work remove bypass valve and have seat recut and reinstall with barrel down 9/16 in in hole . My seat was boggered up and machinest took .010 thousand off it and now it works great , will hold plows up for days.

Any one of the check valves could be leaking. If you take it apart and find any pits in the small balls for the check valves, you can buy replacement bearing balls the same size. You get twice as many as you need and use the first one in each position to smack with a punch and hammer to reform the seat. Then throw that ball away and put a new one in and replace the spring. It doesn't take much to reform the ball seat, but if it has been leaking it should be done.
The pump is pretty simple, just get a drawing of it from a manual, and make sure you have a clean work surface with room to lay an old towel down under so you can catch any parts that want to roll or bounce away. |
