Model B Hood??

I have recently started on a 1941 Model B restoration. I purchased a hood for a 1946 model that is not exactley the same, it is missing a hole though im not exactly sure what it is for. My orginal hood has a small tank mounted on the right side that was not connected to anything. Any ideas on what this is??

Starting tank for the all fuel setup. Gas in the small tank to get the engine warm enough to burn the lower octane cheaper stuff.

If your not planning to start your B on Gas and switch over to Kerosene you don't need a hood with the extra small tank. If your 41 had a engine SN BExxxxK For Kerosene it came with a small gas tank mounted to the hood. 41Bs that had a engine SN BExxxxG were Gasoline only and did not have the small tank under the hood.
   Was the Dual fuel hood in such a bad shape that you needed another? If your engine was changed or rebuilt with high compression pistons it probably will only run right on gas only.
   The new hood you have and plan to use. Does it have a small hole or a big 4 inch hole for the exhaust. Lots of the older hoods got butchered to fit a above hood muffler. The underhood muffler was correct on both the B and the C. When the CA came out in 50 and 51 the newer B hoods got a bigger exhaust hole for above hood mufflers.

   To find out wether the engine block in your 41 is a 41 the SN should be BExxxx. If its a CExxxx the engine is not a 41. Check the casting number also , It is the raised number on the carb side of the block. If the last number is a 13 it was cast in 41. The engine SN could be on the back of the block at the top or on the Left Hand rear flange.

I will get those numbers when I get back in the shop maybe tommorow night. As for the hood, the original with the aux tank need alot more work than the 46 hood I picked up on eBay for ithink 42 dollars.

Found ce42877k on back flange of motor, also am2916 17 on magneto side just above freezeplug I'm guessing. Tractor SN B71598. Always thought it was a 41, it was my grandfather one and only tractor.if it only had a hour meter.

Your engine # would be late 1944, tractor # 1945 and casting # 1945. It's not a perfect science. So I would say it's original 1945 kerosene. Try to fix the original hood.

All the numbers say you have a 1945 B. It may have been a steel wheel tractor when new. Is the  valve cover and the oil pan cast iron? The bull gear housing pans were cast iron too during the war years. Do the clam shell fenders have extentions? Only 2055 Bs were built in 45. Compare that to 16219 built in 1940

The valve cover is not cast, no fender extensions. My dad told me my grandpa bought it used at a year old. It has been converted to a high crop, from what I read it looks like a homade conversion. There is a post on here about thompson coversions a pic of one that says not a Thompson and it looks just like it

A Very Interesting B for sure. What started out as a 41B with a dual fuel hood and small aux tank is now a 45B  HC conversion.  A pretty rare piece of Allis B History. What size rear tires are on it. I would like to see some pictures of how the conversion was done.

To Ken in Texas the rear tire is a 11.2 - 36 safemark nylon tire.
