The most  Seedbed  Preparation Friendly tool we had on the vegetable  farm  when I was a kid  growing up. How many of you know what a Meeker Harrow is?.   Ours almost looked home made with a wood frame.  Made to pull with a horse but we used our Orange 39 AC B.
Every market gardener just South and Southwest of our Chicago Farm had one. The onion set growers in and around  South Holland  Il needed a smooth flat well prepared seedbed. The Meeker Harrow was the answer.

Wife is obsessed with grass growing up through the gravel in the driveway. Last summer she brought something home that was like two 6x6's on a steel frame with 6 or 8 inch pointed spikes sticking out of them in rows. Pretty good shape for as old as it is. I don't know if its a Meeker but looks like it ought to be in the running.

The picture of the Red Meeker harrow in Gary's link looked like ours . We stored it standing on edge against the wall in the implement shed. Only got it out for spring planting time.. The frame was wood about 8'x8' Square . The flat disks were about 8" in diameter . Front rows spaced 6" apart. Back rows 3".  Really did a great job as it was intended to do.
Small seed like carrots and onions made good soil contact in well prepared seedbeds. We sowed with Planet Jr Push seeders. I still have the 3 our farm had 75 years ago.  2 of the 3 are complete and in near mint original condition after 75 years of use. Still use them to sow about a acre of Peas Southern ,Sweetcorn and Green Beans. Fine seed like turnips and greens . There is a seed plate for everything. from mustard to lima bean seed.

So are those discs just perfectly flat then, for breaking things down to smaller size?
