Just curious if anyone knows for certain if WD's ever came with a factory installed distributor or if they all came with magnetos? The reason I ask is that although I am finding info online about AC distributors, there are no parts diagrams for them in any of the original owner's manuals, even the newer ones. I am currently digitally remastering 3 separate manuals for resale and even the new ones with pyramid Allis logo have no parts diagrams for a distributor. I do have a copy of a Deutz Allis parts book which does have the diagram, but it is missing entirely from the owner's manuals. according to the copy of the the parts book I have, it shows the distributor for WD's the last two years of their production and for all WD45s built in 1953  to 1957.

That's the way I always understood it.
Speaking of dizzys, a neighbor of mine was thinking about buying a U a while back, and the seller claimed it had a factory dizzy. Never heard of a U with a dizzy, let alone any tractor that early.

I know my Dad's 1952 WD had a magneto.  I also know the family's 1953 WD-45 had a distributor.  Other than that, I'm sure many changes have been made to WD's over the years.

Thanks everyone! I Purchaced an original copy today of a wd and wd45 parts manual that should have the exploded diagrams for the distribuitor in it. I may add the exploded diagrams to the most current copy of the WD owners manual I'll be remastering.. Any thoughts on this?

Edit:

On second thought I will definitely be adding the diagrams for both the snap coupler and the distributor. Even though the copy of manual form TM-9E has to have been printed in 1965 or after, there are no parts diagrams for the snap coupler or the distributor for the WD.

According to Terry Dean's data book, WDs were equipped with Delco-Remy 1111745 distributor at Serial #136318 and up, about the last 1300 WDs made. All WD45s had the same distributor.

Thanks. Best guess is that these parts were added into a WD45 owner and parts manual?

That's exactly what the WD/WD-45 Parts Manual indicates.

My uncle had WD with distributor and it also the wd45 transmission. Right after he bought the WD the dealer came out and to trade up to a WD45 for 75 dollars. My uncle didn't trade and later he said that was one of biggest mistakes he ever made.
