Here's what the email says that was sent to the exhibitors.  I also called the number.  It sounds crazy, I agree, but it sounds like the general public that attends will have to register.

Greetings NFMS Exhibitors!

We are exactly 14 days 14 hours  51 mins and a few seconds from Opening Day!

New this year we are doing attendee registration and with your help we’re hoping to make this a big success!

It would be a great help to the show, if you could promote attendee registration by sharing the attached info graph on your companies various social media platforms.

Working together we know we can have an even better 2020 National Farm Machinery Show!

If a trade show is setup right.
You register, then at the booths you want more info from, they take a handheld scanner and run it over your event ID. No filing out paper work.
But, at some of them, the exhibitors must rent the scanners from the host.
I go to all types.
Some everyone must register, low turnout, but the attendees are looking to buy.
Some you only register if  you know you are going to be requesting alot of info from the exhibitors. Your event ID, tells them you are looking to buy.

Here’s a copy of the NFMS registration Terms & Conditions:

This document sets out the terms and conditions between NFMS and you when you register for any event or conference organized by NFMS. By registering for an event or conference organized by NFMS you are agreeing to comply with these terms and conditions. You should read this document carefully.
Acceptance of policies and registration conditions
The following NFMS Registration Terms & Conditions (the “Terms & Conditions”) apply to all NFMS events. Prior to your registration, you must acknowledge and accept the Terms & Conditions contained herein. Should you not wish to accept the Terms & Conditions you should not register.
Submission of a registration is regarded as affirmation of your acceptance of the Event Terms & Conditions.
How we will use your information
NFMS is committed to data privacy and protecting your personal information. Information on how NFMS collects, processes, and uses your data is incorporated into these Terms & Conditions. Additionally, by submitting your email address during the event registration process, you agree that NFMS and its event partners may send you event-related information. A valid email address is required for all registrations.
NFMS uses the personal data you provide in this registration for administering your participation in this event. This may include information about the event’s content, event logistics, payment, updates, and additional information related to the event.
NFMS may disclose your personal data to third party service providers engaged by NFMS to assist in the conduct of the event (e.g. housing bureau, mobile application provider). Information you provide when registering for or participating in an event managed or co-sponsored by parties other than or in addition to NFMS may be shared with those parties, and the treatment of such information is further subject to the privacy policies of those parties. Except as described herein, NFMS will not disclose your personal data to any other third party without your consent except where required to do so by law.
Nondiscrimination policy
NFMS prohibits discrimination, harassment, and bullying against any person for any reason—for example, because of age, ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identity, appearance, matriculation, political affiliation, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Event conduct and safety
NFMS is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment to all participants, including staff and vendors, at NFMS-related events. NFMS has no tolerance for discrimination, harassment, or bullying in any form at NFMS-related events. Participants are expected to adhere to these principles and respect the rights of others.
What To Do If You Witness or are Subjected to Unacceptable Behavior: Participants should report any behavior inconsistent with these principles to onsite event staff. Event staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
You may also contact NFMS directly to report a concern at leadretrieval@kyvenues.com
Liability waiver & release
In consideration of being allowed to register for, and participate in the event, I hereby warrant and represent that I am age 18 or above and freely waive, release from liability, assume all risks, and covenant not to sue NFMS or its members, employees, board members, agents, or volunteers for any expense, loss, damage, personal injury, including loss of life, disability, property damage, or property theft or actions of any kind that I may hereafter suffer or sustain before, during, or after the event, unless said expense, loss, damage, personal injury, including loss of life, disability, property damage or property theft or actions of any kind is caused by the sole, gross negligence of NFMS. This Liability Waiver and Release is specifically binding upon my heirs and assigns and is knowingly given.
Service as an invited speaker
If you agree to speak at an NFMS sponsored event, we may share your contact and biographical information with event attendees. Sometimes we may also request a photograph. In other cases, we post on the respective event website information such as your name, employer, physical work address, work email address, as well as a link to your company website and/or professional LinkedIn page available to the public. This is so that visitors to the event website, including event attendees and speakers, can contact you with questions and requests for more information, and to provide feedback if needed. Additionally, speakers may be asked to complete a release agreement or copyright form prior to their presentation.
Credential/badge scanning during the event
NFMS event co-sponsors, exhibitors, and other third parties may directly request your personal information at their exhibit booths or presentations. Providing your information to them is optional, and you should review their privacy policies to address your particular needs and concerns about how they will treat your personal information.
If during the event you attend a session or program hosted by an exhibitor other than NFMS, you understand and agree that when you present your badge for scanning or when you provide personal data, that information will go to a non-NFMS entity and NFMS takes no responsibility for how that company uses your personal information.
Usage of photographic and video material taken at NFMS events
To comply with global data privacy laws, NFMS imposes certain restrictions on the use of multimedia at its events (e.g. photography, video, audio, online streaming, and all future mediums). An attendee is permitted to use hand-held cameras and/or smart phones to take photographs and capture digital images for personal, non-commercial use, provided the photography is not disruptive. Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced, transmitted, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.
NFMS may hire professional service providers (photo/video/streaming/audio) to document and display the event experience. NFMS may also use social media (e.g. Twitter) to: (i) post real-time photos and videos to its social media feeds; and (ii) display select submissions from those feeds on monitors throughout the event venue. Attendees and sponsors are encouraged to capture their event experiences and post their own social content from the event (text, photos, audio, video, streaming), provided it does not infringe upon the rights of any attendee, sponsor, third party, or NFMS. Such infringement would include, but is not limited to, defamation or infringement of intellectual property rights. In the event an attendee requires a release or permission to protect the rights of a third party, obtaining such a release or permission shall be the sole responsibility of the attendee.
By attending the event, you acknowledge and agree as follows: (a) NFMS may edit and use footage it captures at the event for marketing and promotional activities and for any other lawful purpose in the ordinary course of its business; and (b) due to the prevalence of mobile recording devices in today’s world, NFMS disclaims all liability for the capture of your image in any multimedia format by other attendees at the event.
Recordings of the proceedings of standards development meetings
The NFMS Standards Association Standards Board applies restrictions on recording the proceedings of NFMS standards development meetings. Restrictions include, but are not limited to, the usage of audio recording, video recording, and photography by participants or observers.
General
NFMS reserves the right to change, amend, add or remove any of the above Terms & Conditions in its sole discretion and without prior notice. If one or more of the conditions outlined in these Terms & Conditions should become invalid, the remaining conditions will continue to be valid and apply. These Terms & Conditions apply to all event participants (attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors).
The views expressed by any event attendee, speaker, exhibitor, or sponsor are not necessarily those of NFMS. All attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors are solely responsible for the content of all individual or corporation presentations, marketing collateral, and/or advertising.

Online or in-person submission is not considered proof of delivery or receipt. By entering, you agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Promotion Entities and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, their respective representatives and agents, advertising and promotion agencies, promotion partners and prize suppliers, and all of their respective affiliated companies, employees, officers, directors and shareholders, from and against all claims and damages or liability arising in connection with your participation and/or entry in the Promotion and/or your receipt or use of any prize awarded in this Promotion or due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in any Promotion-related activity or participation in this Promotion. Except where prohibited by law, the Prize Winner’s (as defined below) entry and acceptance of the Prize (as defined below) constitutes the Prize Winner’s grant to the Promotion Entities (which grant will be confirmed in writing by the respective Prize Winner on request of any Promotion Entity) the right and permission to use said Prize Winner’s names, photographs, likenesses, statements, biographical information, voices, and city and state addresses on a worldwide basis, and in all forms of media, in perpetuity, without further compensation, permission or notification. If by reason of a printing or other error, more prizes are claimed than the number set forth in these rules, all persons making purportedly valid claims will be included in a random drawing to award the advertised number of prizes available in the prize category in question. No more than the advertised number of prizes will be awarded. 5. How Winner will be Determined: Five (5) potential Prize Winners (each a “Prize Winner”) will be selected in a random drawing, by Sponsor, from among all eligible entries on or about February 17, 2020, and will be contacted by email on or about February 18, 2020. The Sponsor’s decisions with respect to the Prize Winners, these Official Rules, and all other matters pertaining to the Promotion shall be final and binding. An entrant is not a Prize Winner of any prize, unless and until the entrant’s eligibility has been verified and entrant has been notified that verification is complete. The Prize Winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and release of liability and publicity (where permitted), and return same, properly executed, within five (5) days of issuance of prize notification. If Sponsor is unable to contact a Prize Winner within three (3) days from first notification attempt, if a Prize Winner fails to complete and return all requested forms by the specified date, or if a Prize Winner fails to comply with any of the requirements, his/her prize will be forfeited and an alternate prospective winner shall be selected. Only three (3) alternate winner drawings will be held after which any remaining prizes will remain un-awarded. The odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received.
6. Conditions of Entry: Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. If in the Sponsor’s opinion there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Promotion, or if computer virus, bugs, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical difficulties or failures compromise or corrupt or affect the administration, integrity, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Promotion, the Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to: (a) disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and void any entries submitted fraudulently; (b) modify, suspend, or terminate the Promotion; and/or (c) conduct a random drawing to award the prizes using all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the termination date. Should the Promotion be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on the Website. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of the winner based on an email address, the winning entry will be declared to have been made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY YOU TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROMOTION MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES) FROM YOU TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

I have not worked any oil/gas shows for nearly five years but as a vendor, we were ALL inundated with e-mails thereafter shilling for us to exhibit at other shows throughout the country.
You had to rent the scanner as an exhibitor, and they issued a pass to all attendees only after entering all of their company data into a computer that spit out the pass.
You only received the nice lanyard for your entry pass to be worn around your neck if you answered all q's fully.
It was a way to track attendance for sure but more so for the organizers to attract vendors by showing they captured any and all attendees company information including telephone and e-mails.
Of course the info was also sold to many other org's, just another way to "bundle info" so your info can be sold.

For a farm show? Give up my info to get in the door just to view as a prospective customer?
I would have to pass as you can research plenty on the internet, then visit a dealer if interested.

I have a another email address that I use for that type of stuff.  It's a yahoo email.  You need to log in to it about once every three months or they will suspend it.  So when I go there I just click the box at the top and delete everything.  It's very helpful for this type of crap.

I go to the York Farm show, early january, every year, its free, and 90 miles away.  Only have to fill out name, address, phone #.  They ask fer an email, but don't demand anything, and don't look at the filled out forms, I bet I could fill out mickey mouse, or milkshake johnnie, or some other fictional creation, and they wouldn't notice.

Coupla years ago they had a system of hand bands they tried out, tracked where you went, and how long you stayed there.  Must notta been effective, as they haven't used it since.  I put my hand band on a golf cart that was a goin by, just fer laffs...Wink
