Hey everyone,

I have a WD45 with a front end loader.  The front wheels are stock (4.25x16" I believe?) and the tires are the standard narrow-profile tri-rib design, which really tend to dig in and rut when the bucket is full.  I'm looking to change them over to a wider, flatter flotation design for easier steering and less rutting when working with the tractor.  Two questions - is there anything available that would work on the stock 4.25" rim?  If not, does anyone know the stock bolt pattern so I can look for a replacement wider rim/tire combo?  Thanks!

In the 1950's Buick had a rim that would bolt on to the 45's.  Was 15" and wider than stock.  Guys put 7.5LX15 3 ribs on them.  Helped some.  If memory serves me right was about the widest rim you could use unless you took a 8 or 10" rim to the local welding shop and had them move the center.

 Tom is correct.I have  Buick rims form early 70's but had to trim center hole just a little to fit.Tire is close to spindle.

theres one thing to think about, those stock tires and wheels dont carry enought weight to bust up the rest of the tractor front end . i have thoudht of making some eight inch wheels for mine myself  but i have allready broke a spindle lifting around the shop

Good point.

How wide a tire could I reasonably get on the stock rim?  I see a 7.5" tire that might work, but it recommends a 5.5-6" rim.  If I squeezed it onto the stock rim, would it work other than maybe being squeezed into a rounder shape than intended?

google Hay Tire and wheal I got wider rims for my 17 from them. I put 7.5L-15s on it. if you don't see what you want call them they will make them up.

I put 9.5l 15s 4 rib tractor fronts on my WD45  I cut the centers out of some old stock rims and welded them into some 8in wide rims. works good !

google "agriculture tires" and find the manufactures, then do a dealer lookup,  do this to a 2 to 4 manufactures to find your local dealers.  give the dealers a call up with your rim dimensions,  they most likely be able to find you a tire that will work and different tread design.

i am on the opposite side of things. with allis chalmers CA tractor. with narrow front end wheels. i need the 3 ribbed tires. so i can actually turn while in any sort of mud, or dirt, or even snow, heck even mowing the lawn.   originally had nearly balled 3 ribbed tires, and the front would just keep on pushing forward and never turn me. 

granted no FEL (front end loader), but this is still wet time of year,  if you are getting ruts, wait till it drys out more.
