Hi,

Firstly, I am looking to buy a CA. Is there anything I should especially look for? What generally are the weak links of the machine?

Secondly, does anyone have one for sale close to me(200 miles or so)in Muncie, IN?

Check out the tranny, especially 3rd gear, backing off on the throttle or engine braking downhill. 2nd and 3rd have been known to get ground in and tend to pop out under pressure.
The hand clutch is a soft point along with the steering box, but all these things can be fixed, just adds to your expense.
How about 209 miles away? here is one on CL. Might be a little high on price.

First does it have a hand clutch, most do but check to see that it works correctly and next check to see that it does not jump out of any gears when driving it. I would think those would be the main concerns. Someone here might have one or keep an eye on Craigslist.

For sale is a 1951 allis chalmers ca tractor that is in good shape. Tractor runs very good and is still 6 volt with working lights. Price does not include weights. Calls work best 217-370-6546

I am especially looking for a '54 or newer model so it will have snap coupler. I am also on quite a budget of not much more than $1300. The reason for this is my dad is selling a sherman farm crafter for a ford tractor and he is giving me the money when it sells.

Thanks for the help,
JarrodACFan

Good luck buying a decent CA for 1300.....just saying. They're pretty popular. I saw one go recently for 700 locally and it was ROUGH. For 1300 you better look more at a WD or WD45.

I know that it will take some hunting but I am in no hurry to buy one soon, so I have time to hunt for one.

Thanks again,

A question about a CA:
Are CA's supposed to have some sort of platform for your feet or just the bar running across behind the clutch and brake pedals, which I keep seeing in pictures?

Both actually. First the square tube under the pedals, then an open space so you can see the ground behind the cultivator, etc. The platform starts right behind the seat mount and goes back to the lift shaft.

Thanks for the info dkattau, it helps and now I see the platform when I look at pictures.

I also need some advice. I found one that i am interested in, but it is missing the heatlights. What do headlights cost?

We are looking at a U-Haul trailer to haul it back because one trailer we can use is too light and another is WAY overkill for a CA. What are the dimensions (lenght and width) of a CA?

It is missing a belt pulley, what is the cost here?

Also, the drawbar that goes up into the SC isn't correct and how much does one cost?

I want to weigh all these costs before I decide what to offer for it.

Thanks,
JarrodACFan
