 Topic: Looking at buying a '79 A-C 7000

I'm not at all familiar with the 7000 series. The 6000 and 8000 series I have some expirience with. I'm wondering about the water filter that is mentioned on this site. Also some thoughts on one with over 9000 hours, what to look for and check as well as price range. Or am I better off looking for a 7010??

6000 series were Fiats with Allis engines, 8000 series updated 7000 series. With 9000 hours, its wore out, look for EVERYTHING. Price range has to be not much more than scrap, as its likely the tractor needs to be rebuilt from end to end unless it had an extremely easy life, IMHO, Trev.

Thats alot of hours. They're a good tractor, but the 7010-7020 would have better brakes and hyds.

We've got a 7010 and 7020 that have both been worked hard their whole life oil and filters changed on schedule. Both have over 11000 hours and still very reliable! With care the 7000 series will last a long time. Both ours had in frame oh kits at around 9000 hours and they both start and run strong!

I know of several 7000 series that have well over 10,000 hours on them, some closer to 20,000, and most still are mechanically in great shape, and some even look great cosmetically. Just depends on the previous owners and what they did for maintenance. I would say just check everything over real well, and with that many hours it may not be worth a whole lot, but could still serve as an excellent tractor for you.

avoid the 7000 my biggest kick on that tractor was the park gear set up it would lock on a hill with a load the 7010 had this problem solved.

I sold my black belly 7000 last year to move up in HP to a 7060. The 7000 was a good machine for farming my 110 acres. It was as trouble free as one could expect a 30 year old tractor to be and was VERY good on fuel. I also have had an older 7000 that was trouble free. 9000 hours sounds like alot but I agree with the others in it is all in how hard it worked to get to 9000 hours. I would not hesitate to buy another 7000 someday but I agree that the 7010 would be a step up, IF you can find a good one.

Dont get me wrong boys, I'm not saying a 7000 isnt a good tractor. My Dad had ALL series of AC tractors from a WD to an 8030, a 7580, 190xt, 200, 7000, two 7020s, a d17 diesel, a 185, and a 7040. He still will say the 7000 was his favorite. It had 5000 hours on it when he sold it. It was bought new in 1976, was never worked hard, was well maintained and sat inside. It looked new when it went down the road. Ive seen, and so have you guys, tractors with 2500 hours on them that look like jigsaw puzzles with a few pieces missing. All I'm saying is that with 9000plus on it, expect that everything is suspect. Trev.

I attended a good farm auction near Alexis, IL (near quad cities) last February 2011. This tractor pictured below sold for $7200. It was an AC 7010 with 4750 hrs and I believe it had the power director transmission. It was in good running condition.

with proper care, 9000 hrs should not be the end of a tractor! I wouldn't know how to farm with a tractor with less the 10,000 hrs on it LOL
