I just bought my first Allis Chalmers a 1947 C model. Anything special I need to know. Also, can anyone tell me if a loader attachment is available.

Henderson made a loader for the B, C, and CA. They used a Char lyn pump that ran off the PTO.

A Allis modle 100 will also fit a C. The one I put on My CA came off a C. While it works good. I would not put a loader on a C. It's a nice light nimlbe tractor untill you add a loader. then it becomes a clumbersome hard to steer front heavy beast.

Horn also made a loader for the B/C tractors, they also private labeled it for New Idea. Dad sold one of the New Idea versions at a GOTO a couple of years ago. Keep looking they do show up for sale. Kip |

Most if not all antque tractors where not designed for front end loaders. Adding them on is to overload the front axles and steering with little capability anyhow.

Thanks for your input!!!!! I would like to be able to move things around the farm, at least round bales any ideas. Also new question.....needs an oil change ..what oil do I use ?? I don't need non detergent do I? My old Ford takes the non.
Also I just hooked up the front blade but it doesn't lift very high only about 6 inches off the ground is that normal?? Edited by DKB - 26 Jul 2011 at 12:37pm |

I use 10w30 in mine and I have never had a problem. You don't need non-detergent, unless that is your preference.
Do you have 7 quarts of fluid in the transmission? The Hydraulics work off the oil in the transmission and there is a baffle/dam that the 'extra' portion of the oil sits to run the hydraulic pump. As others have said, these tractors weren't really made to have loaders on them. Usually if they have loaders, they have 2 rams and/or a belt driven aftermarket hydraulic pump. And Welcome to the Forum! Everything you could ever need to know about these tractors can be found here!

I have a Henderson loader on the front of my B model. The ole' girl does steer a bit harder, but being its a wide front, it seems to handle the loader okay. I could see where a loader on a NF C Model could be a problem. I use my loader around the property for dirt, gravel, and keeping the compost pile back a bit, but it does come in handy! I'll even pick up and move a small engine once in a while. As for oil, I've been using 10w40 for years without any troubles in all my machines and equipment. HTH

They would have to be very small round bales to pick up with a C. I built a lift for the back of my C that worked very well. I went straight up from the ball hitch to above my head with a piece of 2" well pipe. than just had angle Iron lift beam about 3' long ata the top braced back to the pole. it only took about a minute tio install just slip over the Ball hitch and use a twisted clevise around the pipe and rock shaft. lift was a manual winch worked real well. I gave it away before I thought about getting a picture.

Thanks all I like this forum already. Hope I can get this blade problem figured out soon. I was using it yesterday pushing dirt/manure/compost and it's getting old with the blade not working properly. Is there a setting or something I'm missing
