Topic: Lift arms won't lower - traction boost?Posted: 01 Sep 2017 at 9:32am |

I'm in the process of putting a 3 point conversion on my d-17 series 4 and I can't get the lift arms to go down. The FEL works fine so I don't think it's a hydraulic issue. I was actually able to get them to collapse if I put the lift arm lever all the way forward and stood on arms. It raised when the lever was pulled back, but won't go back down on its power. The traction control linkage is completely broken off, just a small piece of it is dangling from the bottom connection. I'm assuming this could be causing some type of a problem. How do I just turn traction boost completely off? I also can't get the traction boost and position control lever to move separate of each other they'll only move in unison like they're stuck together. I also can't read the writing so I don't know which position I should go and what exactly they do in each position. Any help would be appreciated, I'm at a loss.

Traction Booster/Position Control levers should both be forward. Having to stand on the snap-coupler lift arms while holding the Lift/Lower lever clear forward is very NORMAL !! on a series 4, as they will never go down under their own weight. Once you get the lift arms down, start the engine and set the throttle at no more than 1,000 RPM. If the arms come up slowly on their own, you have a T.Boost linkage/plunger issue. If they don't come up at slow engine speed, everything is fine. They probably will come up slowly as the engine speed is increased and this is also normal with cold oil and with snap-coupler hitch.

I had the same problem on my 180 and 170. The actuator lever that pushes in the spring loaded plunger on the control valve was frozen up. I had to remove it and free it up on the spacer bushing.
