I have a 185 with a lift cylinder on the 3 point that leaks pretty bad. Does it take much work or money to rebuild them, or should I hunt down a used one? Thanks! GLEN

Buy seal kit...
easy to change if you know how... Fat cylinder, work through hydraulic fitting hole to remove internal snapring... then pull out, and replace seals then reverse proceder... small rod cylinder, use spanner type pin wrench and remove end collar... seal packings should have instructions with them for replacement. If rod or cylinder is scored, find different cylinder. |

A good hydraulic shop can fix yours up. Any used one you find will probably leak as bad (or worse) than the one you already have.

I did both cylinders on my 200 last year. Got the parts from AGCO and were not bad on price. Biggest job was removing the cylinders and that wasn't too bad. Putting the seals in was kinda like a woman's head--NOT MUCH TO IT

I used AGCO parts. Pay attention to how the old seals are orientated. In my case they were in pieces.

I have a 185. The lift works okay but slowly goes down once in an upwards position. Could someone advise me here? Do you think the lift cylinders need to be rebuilt?

If your lift cylinders aren't leaking oil on the ground, they are fine. "Settling" of the hitch with a load on it is fairly common. How fast of leak down and how much weight ?? If your hydraulic linkage under the hydraulic console is functional (many are rusted up and stuck) pulling the POSITION CONTROL lever all the way back will keep the hitch up while the engine is running, but not with engine off.

Thanks for the quick reply. With a disk harrow lifted it will fall down say within 30 seconds so that you have to re-lift as you drive. Yes, I have noticed if I leave the lever all the way back it stays up. However, this seems to produce a leak under the hydraulic housing so I have been avoiding it.

On the rear of the lift/lower 3-point valve, there is a "tee" handle. Take a hammer and a large punch and strike somewhat firmly on the end of it. Then take a pliers and tighten it clockwise like a nut on a bolt. If you can tighten it at all this may help with your leakdown issue. You might do this several times and if you beat on it so much you break something.....you hit it too hard. To expect zero leakdown doesn't usually happen. Most have some internal valve leakage. Fix your external leak and you can use what was provided to keep things raised up.
