Lateral tilt/ non lateral tilt interchangeability

   Current combine is non lateral tilt and current grain head is non lateral.  Couple years out of a different combine but would like to start shopping for a bigger  newer nicer head.  Next combine will be tilt.  First dealer I asked said I need to put special blocks on my feeder house each time I switch from corn to beans.  Dealer B says all I need to do is pull a couple bolts on the head move something and put the bolts back in.  Who is right?

	Hmm, won't answer that BUT - the HC lateral tilt prior to 1998 was the same - they are rare - all current models -MF and Gleaner - have a feeder housing that is larger than the old one - you are going to an 800 or 8000 or 8200 - all are compatible with lateral tilt. The 800 and 8000 have the adjustable opening - it is not "just pull a coupler of bolts" it is a half day affair. IF you get the large opening setting on an 800 8000 8200 you CAN use it on your old feeder housing IF you install the TALL INDEX mounts on your non lat tilt throat. One CAN convert via welding ( 6 hours ) a new kit in the old non lat tilt corn heads - huggers - that works well. Later early 3000 heads had movable throat upper plates. Look for an 8200 with air reel - pull out the full finger auger fingers - then you have as good and strong a head as you can find. You can find these as they are being traded in on draper heads. After 8200 the 8000 then 800 would be my choice. With the tall mounts these will work til you trade combines = keep in mind late heads will have the potentiometers instead of the 3 spring switch on 300 and early 500 heads for auto header height control. 	Combine is an 01 with potentiometer HHC. Goal is a 8000 or 8200 that will eventually get a air reel. I bid on 8000 this week with air but didn’t want to chase a head that’s no bigger than mine any higher. Edited by victoryallis - 22 Dec 2018 at 6:04am

	A buddy had a wide throat 700 series (rigid version of 800) and it was able to mount to a S77 with low blocks that had the lateral tilt removed to run a JD throated Shelbourne via a Bish plate. He sold it on Big Iron, and I delivered it for him to the new owner that removed it from the trailer with a Series 3 N7, and the only concern was hitting the cab with the tall backbone. Dont think thats an issue on 92+ R series. I have a 8R36 Hugger I picked up this fall and ran it on one of our 86 R7s, and it was a earlier header, and had the major cut and weld kit installed for lateral tilt, and it had the crossmember lowered and it latched right on. So, I cant say for sure, but after what I have seen with my junk and the stuff I delivered, I am confident a newer header with the crossmember lowered will fit right on, and can later be raised for a future lateral tilt machine.
