Ive asked this question before but I think I'm about to make an attempt. I have a vitetoe chaff spreader and it currently is run off to the header reel hydraulics. I got a different header and I would like it to run with the corn header so I don't have to take it off and on. Every time I switch crops. I am thinking about plumbing it into the return off of the main valve stack with a blocker valve that routes oil through the spreader when the separator clutch is engaged.
Does anybody have any experience with this. Dad is concerned the back pressure on the valve stack will make it malfunction. The only real issue I can think of is that it may lose flow when the header raises but that will only be momentarily. Any input is appreciated. Thanks. Derek in mo |

I'll have to look at my L2. I can run it without running any other function. never really looked at how it's plumbed.

I rarely carry a phone (I like not being found all the time) so sometime today I'll get pics and tonight I'll post them here.

I've plumbed one before with the power steering return oil flow. Downside is, whenever the engine runs, it will run, unless you install the speed control valve outside the cab door or window, so you can shut it off if you want it to be stopped.

I bet that's how mine is plumbed. I have a speed control valve outside the right window.

Is there a reason you used the steering rather than the valve stack return. From what I read steering only has 3.5 GPM and the valve has 11. I thought those spreaders needed more like 6 GPM. Thanks.

My combine was a 79 model....yours sounds newer. I wouldn't use the return from the hydraulic valve stack. You do whatever you want. I know we had hyd oil cooling problems after this spinner was installed.

Ours is plumbed off of the hydraulic pump to a speed control, then the spreader, the return is teed into the bypass from the speed control and returns to the outside row first section on the valve stack , it doesn't have a solenoid. I assume that is the direction the oil flows. Its to dark to get pics now.
This is on a L3 which I assume would be the same. |
