I'm looking for a 20' flex head for my L2 and keep finding a bunch of R style heads. I was wondering what the difference was and if an R style head will fit the L. i know the throat was off set on the rotaries, i didn't know if the head sat off to one side, or if the opening was offset on the R heads. any help is appreciated

i really hate to do that. it's kind of like putting a chevy grill on a ford.
Seriously though, i dont know anything about deere heads and i believe it takes some kind of adapter. i really don't want to get a bunch of money in it. |

The rotors had an offset feederhouse. The head was centered on the machine, but had an offset mount. Not interchangable. I would think that any AC dealer would have a head laying around for one. Have you tried looking on Tractorhouse.com?

I have been watching tractor house and craigslist. There's a ton of 20' heads for R series but i haven't seen any L/M 20' flex any where close. That was a pretty big machine for it's time in this area. there are F2 combines and heads everywhere but L/M equipment is hard to find.

There are a couple of dealers here in Ontario that will retrofit an R series head to fit an L/M series head. I think that Hyde Bros. in Hensall will sell you a kit if you can weld it in, but not sure.

I saw dad convert one years ago, a lot of work. you need to cut the header mount section out and weld it in the center, cut down the one drive shaft , replace the other for it will be to short, then rework the entire auger because it does't feed in the center. he took the auger fingers out, cut the flighting off of the one side turned it around and welded on the other side then cut new holes for the fingers. i don't remember the details it was a long time ago.

The universal answer to all questions is yes, how much do you want to spend?
