I had swore that I was NOT gonna take another project, no matter how small so I could get on Ole Red and then the frigging weeds started growing like,,,well like weeds,,,! Got my New (Last Year) Homelite weedeater out of garage and the SOB would not start,,so I dumped the fuel, mixed some new fuel and pulled on the friggin cord til almost passed out,!! Knowing I was NOT gonna mess with too much,,I ordered a new (china) carb kit with new spark plug, in tank fuel filter, new fuel lines, and even new fuel pump bulb,,, Put it all together when kit came in and the sob fired right up,,SO started to cut weeds and of a sudden the frigging IDLE went to the stratosphere and I could hardly hang on so I stopped iIt Checked it all out and fired it up and same very high idle,!! WTF?? Next morning I try and NOW the frigging engine will NOT start at all, din't even offer to fire!! Checked the spark plug with my spark plug tester and shows good spark and GOOD compression,SO the ignition coil must be OK too,,? I did notice thet the KILL switch had NOT killed the engine yesterday,,,so maybe it is shorting out the coil,,,? Sure hate to tear down the whole friggin thing to get to the friggin coil but,,,???

Yeah Steve,,I thought bout that when yesterday when it WAS running at high idle, the kill switch would NOT kill the engine,,,had to put engine on FULL choke to kill the engine!! Only'ist thing,,,I'm gonna have to remove all of the dang cowling to get to where the wire is located on the coil,,,,

naw ,ain't weird...same chit happens on this side of the 49th..... The coil is NOT shorted out.. the switch is suppose to GROUND ( short) it out... so the wire from the magneto (coil) is NOT connected to the switch, or the switch is 'open'. I'm looking at over a foot of 'white' from you know who... and it's just 12 days before Spring !! ??? Or is it Christmas, again ??!!!!

Well Steve,,,as usual you had the scope on that 30-06 dead on the money,,,one of the wires was "OFF" the terminal on the kill switch, but I noticed the clearance on coil to flywheel was very close to almost touching! I tried a feeler gauge and near as I can tell,,clearance was .006 and is suppossed to be .015 according to youtube,,,? Removed coil to clean behind it (grass) and tried to find how to "test" the coil itself but youtube didn't have a plan that sounded good,,,,?? Reason is with one test lead in the spark plug hole,,, and other on Coil ground I can make the meter reading jump all over the place by moving the test lead around in the spark plug hole,,,!!!!
