But I do have a real question, is Deere going to do away with another good chainsaw company.
I don't remember when Deere first started in the chainsaw business. But I do remember when they took over Homelite. Have hey run that brand name into the dirt that it is done? But I do remember old timers saying they hoped JD didn't ruin Homelie like they had what ever they had before. Cause in the magazine they have a add for Stihl products. Not like they have a add for any other product that they don't own. Cause Frontier is the only other brand advertised and I think it is just the cheaper ranchett owner brand they have to compete with Tractor Supply stuff.
Any guesses if Deere will be the proud owner of the Stihl brand soon?????????????? Or are they already?

I don't know when Deere first got into chainsaws either. We had a Deere saw dad bought new in the early 80's, it was made by Echo and was a damn nice saw. I've seen junk Homelites from well before Deere sold them, I don't know how formal the association was, as I can still go into a hardware store and see them for sale. Ace hardware has both Craftsman and Stihl, the Feed Store has Stihl......so maybe some Deere dealerships want to sell and service chainsaws and get a Stihl license? I don't know... seems the only decent new chainsaws are orange, either Husqy or Stihl.

I know Several JD dealers here are just that for Stihl, just dealers.

We had a JD green and yellow chainsaw when I was a wee lad that was identical to the Remington still have. Damn good saws but the muffler is burnt out on the Remington and when running the sound just goes right through you. We still have a JD 80ev saw takes 2 men and a small boy to throw that one around. I don't know who made that saw for them. It replaced the green and yellow one dad wore out

I didn't know JD was in the chainsaw business. Of course, I didn't know AC was either until I started reading on this forum. Homelites are junk, craftmans are about the same. My Dad and step Grandpa had Sthils when I was a kid. They kept them until I was grown. I believe they lasted so long because they hardly ever ran. Those saws wouldn't start no matter what you did or spent on them. I've owned three Husqvarna saws over the last 20 years or so. I wouldn't have anything else now. They start good, have plenty of power, and best of all, they're orange.

The 80 EV is what we have, er had, well, still have but don't use. You're right, it's a beast but bullet proof, made by echo. The only reason we quit using it was the muffler is shot and obsolete. The sound is one thing, but it basically exhausts on your hand, so even with heavy gloves it gets pretty warm after a while!

I will say, I have 2 Stihls and I think they are relatively hard starting. Once they're going they're great. I'd try a Husqy, not sure where the dealer is so not convenient on the way home like the Stihl dealer is!

Had an Echo 500 for 28 years. Bought another new one!Would still have the first one but I ran over it with the XT.

I was raised cutting wood for primary winter heat. Dad is a Johnsred fan. I think I have probably driven most of the brands out there. A good friend of mine has an outdoor power shop and they have a large repair shop as well. He likes the Dolmar saws the best but he is quick to admit that Echo has the best engine, no matter whether it is saws, blowers, or trimmers. I have 5 Echo saws and I truly believe they are the most dependable saw on the market. Nothing more frustrating than a saw that won't start or a oil reservoir that runs out before the gas.

I've heard Johnsred and Husqvarna companies were two brothers that were supposed to be in business together but had a spat, and each their own company. Something like that. Anybody confirm or dispute that? Kinda like Roosters and Frickers.

I think Poulan, Jonesred, and Husqvarna are all in the same family, not sure who acquired who or how it came to be. Also, I think Craftsman was made by a couple different companies over the years. I have an older Craftsman without the brake that won't die, but it is one of those saws that once you get it running don't shut it off or you are done until it cools down.

I've had two Echo's.
The first wore out and let air in where it wasn't supposed to be. The second ran without A problem until one day, for some reason it just could not be cranked hard enough to start. I suspect that a bearing let go. But both were mistreated so badly that I should be ashamed of my treatment!!!

I grew up with Homelite XL12 the first smaller saw still ran last time I tried it but it is tired and no parts. Then the family had several of the Super XL's that lasted good as well. Brother in law got into Husqvarnia's all hard to to start but lasted and had good power.
I have become a Echo fan as they seem to be easy starters. May not be as powerful as some others,but I don't hurry as much myself anymore.
Craftsmen has bought saws from many places and put their name on them it.
But the add I was looking at is in the official John Deere magazine the Furrow and the Stihl add is the only thing not green in the whole thing.

I own Stihl chainsaws ,trimmers ,polesaw. I only use the premixed canned gas . Yes expensive but they all start easy and have not had any issues. My time off is limited and having something not work kills me. Only so much time on the weekend to get stuff done

Everything we own is Stihl. Been a Stihl family for generations. All of our stuff starts good. We mix our own gas......using the stihl synthetic oil and regular gas. No problems here but our stuff runs enoughs the gas doesnt have time to gum things up. If we do put away for winter I use standard stabil.......once again no issues

Had a few Poulans when they were well made then they got cheap and that ended that. Gave that new saw to the SIL so he could cuss at it. Went with Stihl and also tried a Husqvarna. Stihl is my go to saw now.

I guess I'm a little fussy when it comes to starting. My saws aren't that bad really, because at least they are "predictable". They are a little cold blooded in my opinion. 10 -12 hard pulls with choke when you grab it cold ( and the new MS 291 pull HARD). Then usually they're running if you flick it to half choke quick enough, otherwise one more pull. A pull or two when they're still warm. Both of mine behave this way, the 291 borderline could use a decompression lever. The old Deere 80EV had one of those, that made things nice.

I love my Huskvarna, it's starts now on 5 or 6 pulls. Used to start with two EVERY time, until I had to take it in for service. Don't know what they did but it sure pizzed me off!!

I work for a deere dealership. Some dealerships have the license to sell and work stihl products. Depending on if they meet stihl requirments The last few deere saws and weed trimmers were junk. Along with the last push mowers and snowblowers. Thats why also some dealerships are also honda dealers. Deere quit making that stuff.
