I have a Jacobsen Turfcat 445G mower. Deck is out front has steering wheel. Today while mowing I lost power steering and can't raise deck now. It still moves in forward and reverse and deck will spin, it is hydraulic driven. It made a high pitch chirping sound and steering was choppy. Then no power steering or deck lift. The steer wheels are behind like a fork truck. Could something of stuck cause this? Never a minutes problem till today. Any help appreciated. Tracy

Hydraulic squeal says relief valve?  Flattened out line, bad hose or disconnected QC could kick the relief valve...HTHWink

Check hydraulic fluid level FIRST.  Chirping is usually a belt or rubber coupler barking, if the pump has lost fluid, it's probably going between cavitation and prime...

You could also have a fail of hydraulic fluid pickup suction, or a foriegn object stuck in the pickup...... or the inside liner of a suction line has collapsed in, and constricted the pickup flow.

When troubleshooting, keep in mind that most likely, your hydraulic steering, and deck lift are NOT in the same circuit as the hydrostatic unit... and a hydrostatic drive will be recirculating a large portion of it's internal volume as part of drive ratio control.  The 'charge pump' pulls fluid from the hydraulic reservoir and SUPPLIES it to the hydrostat, but only at the rate at which the hydrostat NEEDS additional 'charge'... and if the hydrostat doesn't need much, the charge pump is keeping it'full enough' so that it seems like it's running okay... for now... (but it's not)

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

Full of hydraulic fluid. First thing I checked.I been reading the service manual on this mower. Steering and deck lift are on a circuit of their own. Deck is driven by its own pump directly off of crankshaft. The early models had a relief valve built in steering and lift circuit. The valve for the lift had the relief valve built in, mine does not. What do you think? I could take pic of hydraulic system and text it to you. Thanks, Tracy

I went to farm and looked at mower today.Started it up, still no steering or deck lift. It might of has the slightest feel of fluid passing thru steering, not sure. Moved it forward and reverse and get the chirping noise. My hydraulic schematic shows a relief vale on it, but I can't find it on mower. Checked with the dealer service guy, not much help. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Tracy
