I have never seen such a unit. Is this all Allis-Chalmers or something that was adapted for bare root tree harvesting?

Bailey Nursery here had a HD4 set up the same way - they look wierd is all I can say .
Who built the units ? I always figured they were shop built locally and not factory. Now trying to find parts for the old HD7 machines with a 3-71 is like finding hens teeth .

Yes Coke shop built. In 83 when at a Berco track dealer that also shared facilities with several independent mechanics. They were building a nursery tree lifter on a Cat D4 frame.

We have modified a number of them in our shop, as well as built from scratch. Clearance under the belly ranges from 4-8 feet, depending on what we are digging. The HD4 that was here I believe was done by Sweeney in the Twin Cities, MN. GK Machine in Oregon still builds a tall crawler from scratch. Pardon the off color attached, easiest picture to find. |
