Talkin to my dad today and he told me CAT was being sold to someone. Can anyone put some light on the subject? Also heard that AGCO and Case are still going to merge. I can just say if CAT is sold and everyone merges WE ARE SCREWED! New equipment is already high enough.

Cat acquires Bucyrus for $8.6 billionNovember 15, 2010 | Newsletter Construction Headlines Caterpillar has agreed to acquire Bucyrus International for $8.6 billion, including net debt. The acquisition is part of Cat’s “key strategic imperative to expand its leadership in the mining equipment industry.” Caterpillar says the acquisition will also help it “capitalize on the robust long-term outlook for commodities” that’s being driven by rapid growth in emerging markets that are improving infrastructure, rapidly developing urban areas and industrializing their economies. The transaction is expected to close in mid-2011. Caterpillar intends to The companies received a request -- often referred to as "second request" -- for additional information and documentary material from the antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Bucyrus said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission."We expect as M&A activity increases that the DOJ and other regulatory bodies are going to ask for more information for antitrust purposes," said Oliver Pursche, president of Gary Goldberg Financial Services, a Suffern, New York-based money manager that holds Caterpillar shares. The Caterpillar-Bucyrus deal will leave Joy Global (JOYG.O) as the last remaining stand-alone U.S.-based maker of mining equipment. |

Cat bought Electro-Motive from GM last fall. Seems like they are expanding into other markets. Bob

I doubt Cat is being sold. From what I understand their stock is doing well and I really don't see any reason why they would want to. Stranger things have happened though.
Cat owns the constuction market. Look around at all the constuction sites. I'd say Cat equipment would be at least 20 to 1 to other brands. I'd say dozers are close to 99% around here.
I doubt the anti-trust laws would let Case and Agco merge. Case has already had to downsize (McCormick) to stay within the law.

The Eastern european and Asian industries are growing and becoming more prosperous. And i belive that the increasingly few european ag companies will have to watch their backs so that they dont repeat the same mistakes that the US car industry made in the 70ies.
We now have 3 giant competing corporations with ever increasing exhaust emissions demands. Deja vu anyone? Rostelmash, a large russian combine and forager manufacturer recently bought canadian versatile and became a full-line manufacturer with global presence. They have the money, knowhow, and organization to go big. Terrion, a russian tractor built mainly on german components is starting to sell their tractors in europe and they have 400hp tractor in the works. That is more than any Fendt or Deere.... Belarus is developing an all new grounbreaking diesel-electric tractor that is far more advnaced than anything we could expect from the former soviet brand. Zetor has shown a 6-cylinder protoype that shows that the old czech brand is ready to take on the larger brands once again. Kubota, a japanese tractor company has begun making tractors targeted directly to farmers, unlike their traditional compact utility tractors. And Japanese engineers arent stupid, Lexus anyone? they have everything it takes to make a world class tractor, and nothing can stop them from making bigger machines. We laughed at Nikon, Toyota and KIA and 30 years ago, now look. http://www.ls-uk.info/forum/index.php?topic=58798.0 |

No, Cat isn't being sold. There are few (if any) companies big enough to swallow Cat-----------and those that might be have no interest in trying.
I've owned CAT stock for the last 10+ years-------its been a very good investment. |

Who would of believed Bush Hog would sell out to Rhino. Thats a company that is strong around my part of the woods. Just about everyone owns a Bush Hog. I just know somthing is going down between all the companies (construction and farm equipment)that is going to have a big effect on all of us. |

Chalmers Bob, There was another owner of Electromotive between GM and Cat. I don't recall the corporate name but might have been Progress Rail. Some wondered why GM sold off the second largest manufacturer of railroad locomotives (GE is #1) which seemed to being doing well. Probably needed the cash. This happened a few years ago. Several years ago cat developed a Locomotive engine to replace some of the older existing engines, however it was not brought to the market because the marketing winds were not blowing right, so it was tabled. Things have changed.
