the old lady.....oooops….I mean the loving wife and myself went to a wood carvers show and sale today....well yesterday now. everything there was hand carved outta different types of wood. the loving wifes bro was the featured carver there. there was sum mighty fine art there! Leon...you could/should have been there with your talents! we bought 2 statues, one being a pure white Santa with angel wings! that was carved out of...shucks...I forgot what wood! and I bought a brown bear holding a sign saying "bite me"! lol. he specializes in all types of "Santa's"! some of his carvings have been featured in magazines and some have sold back east at them high priced auction houses. Christie's auction being one of them. we had purchased one from him a few years ago, that was an old cowboy statue. it was a fun day!

Shameless, was it Basswood?  That's a good carving wood and is whitish...

Ted...he does use basswood on some stuff, but uses 2 other kinds most of the time. I guess depending on what you are carving, is what you use the different types of wood for.
