I bought a 2wd Allis chalmers 8070 tractor a few years back, and I got nothing but only good things to say on this machine. great tractor, but I had a few questions.
My first question are the oil filters. I change the two slip/turn filters beside eachother but was told there is another filter ? (some bypass filter perhaps) I never did change that. Question 2 Lately I have been having this tractor coming out of gear when the tractor is working relatively hard. it is a 5 speed , with that power direct lever on the left side of the steering wheel. also sometimes when I shift into low on that lever the tractor comes out of gear? I would appreciate any knowledge on this, as I really do like this tractor and it has been working very well and want to continue having this machine going |

Engine oil bypass filter is above the starter on the left side of the engine. It is BIG compared to the other 2 engine oil filters. As far as "coming out of gear" goes.....unless your 1-2-3-4-5 lever or the High-Low-Park lever are moving to the neutral position on their own, it isn't coming out of gear. I'd suspect you might have a wet/oily torque limiter clutch disc and it's slipping under a hard pull. The next time it does this, quickly see if your power steering is sluggish or dead. If so, it's a slipping torque limiter. Shift down a gear to maybe get thru the Spring season.

The tractor comes out of gear in 5 high shifting down to low on power director as well as the power director at times will not switch to high , which I forgot to mention in my post . Also in 3 and 4th gears in high in the high power director at high revs I'll be working In field and the fast/slow selector lever will knock back into neutral
