Good friend asked if I would like an International Harvester refrigerator. He's had it for twenty years in his shop to keep beverages cold and it has expired. I'm sure some IH collector would love to have one, working or not, but I do not want or need it. If only it was an AC, sigh...Harvey

Seen one that was restored on that TV site Rick's Restorations in Las Vegas , new compressor and few other changes and new blue and white paint job - $1,000 to restore it and I wonder you would have to have a real IH love to pay that

Coke when was the last time you went out shopping for such? Yes the restored price is higher than a base model but not all that much. And the old one restored will last at least as good as a new one.
Last time a fridge quit around here, I was told we don't even look at fixing them. Because we (the repairman ) are then responsible for any pollution it causes (the release of refrigerant) and we will not be responsible because we know the cooling coils are paper thin and will leak at some point. So unless the copper in the old coils is bad fixing maybe a cost effective way to go with a old better built model. Maybe in a state like Nevada they can get away from the liability like I have in the Land of Fruits and Nuts.

I looked at frigs about a month back - every one I looked at they said a month or 2 to get one in stock - nothing in a 33" unit out there.
So did some searches on net , found I probably needed a new control board , called around $350 for board , found 2 part numbers for same unit , searched by part number and found board from Supplier in PA - $154 with 2 day free shipping - then had a coupon for money off from E-bay for $10 - so back in business , no big thing except getting programed into new board in unit . |

While searching for that control board found a couple sites that sell refurbished boards for $50 with a core charge of $40 for your own board - other sites has a listing for repair kit , 7 parts you needed to replace and solder into old board yourself - $24 for the kit .
Stupid LOGIC BOARD in a frig , but it seems this push button electronics is the new wave of the future - look at all of us that are sending messages by the means of electron excited by the push of a key or picture on a screen that is touched |
