I purchased online a AC tractor stating only that it was an AC.  Now I have it and trying to identify what I have I could sure use some help from those in the know. I thought It was a D14 but now after digging into the books I'm not sure. Are there any identifying features in order to separate it as either a D14-D15-or D17 looking at the tractor. The serial number is not visible due to the rough casting on the housing. I have wire brushed it extensively and there is no sign of a number. The tractor belonged to the State Of Missouri and had passed through departments and I purchased it through an auction that the Department of Corrections held. I have had the pan off of it and know the oil pump is behind the flywheel so I think that would eliminate a D-17. It runs so good I hate to take it apart to check the engine bore. Any help would be appreciated.

You may want to look at other places for the serial number.......it will not be located on the "rough casting" but instead on a "boss" ground smooth on the casting.

If it is a D-14, D-15, or D-17 the serial number would be on the Left front side of Torque Housing.  Left Side facing front.
Remember, the tractors you are talking about had a Power Director lever on the left side of the transmission.  Moved from high range to low range with a pull or push of the "Big Stick"
Serial Numbers
D-14 1003 - 21800
D-15 1001 - 23753
D-17 4300 - 86061
Picture would be good too.  The D 14, 15, and 17 all had the basic hood line
Let us know what you find out.
Good Luck!

I think Bill meant to say the  PD lever is on the right side.....at least as you sit on the tractor.
The D-17 has 28" wheels.....24" wheels would at least eliminate that model.

To stir up the mud, a little, some industrial models had the big stick on the left side, in which case it can be a shuttle shift, F-R...Wink

You're right........there can be a lever on the left but that's not a Power Director/Hi-Lo lever of which Bill was speaking.
