there is an IB at a local sale tomorrow and it has a sickle mower on it.  it has the bumper all the way around and is orange..... all I know about it as far as now.  any clue on what its value is?  how different is the sickle mower? it cant be seen very good on the pic.

as far as the tractor i know it sits lower and the seat, fenders, steering wheel, ect is different.  I'm somewhat interested in it to have and just leave the sickle mower on to cut around our fields during the summer....lol  dont like taking mine on and off the B.....lol  AND it would be another neat old tractor to have in the shed!!!!

appreciate the info or help.  PS: did an IB have a PTO????  could also use it on the elevator.LOL

years ago there was a coal and fuel yard in La Crose WI, that had two IB's, painted blue, each with a mounted elevator for loading coal into delivery trucks. They were of course well worn when the loal Allis dealer bought them when the yard closed. He tore them apart maybe for a few parts but mostly for scrap. a shame,.  tractorman

The mower would run off of the PTO on the IB, same as a B

Some highway mowing IBs had a hydraulicly driven mower which mowed in any position from 45 deg down to 90 deg up.
It was powered by a front mounted pump which ran off the front crankshaft pulley.
I have one of the pumps but I can't recall the name of the mfg of the mower.

There were several mowers available for the IB, all were very different from the usual B/C mower.  Drott and Detroit Harvester made industrial mowers for the IB that would mow at larger angles than the standard pitman mowers of the day.  I know A-C made an industrial mower for the B that was based on the B/C mower, and I would be surprised if they didn't offer something special for the IB as well.  Perhaps someone else can clear that up.  Bill Long, maybe?

The IB's we sold were all picked up from a "friendly" industrial dealer.  Being an agricultural dealer we were not allowed to sell IB's only the industrial dealers were.
Brett is correct.  To my recollection the sickle bar mowers that went on them were not made by Allis Chalmers.  Drott, Detroit made them.  They were industrial mowers in the fact that they could mow at any angle and were used by counties for road mowing.  As I drive along the highways I always look at the tractors that do road mowing.
Fords - oops New Holland - mostly.  See a very few Kubods (?) and one or two John Deeres.  Still use the Mott Hammerknife mower.  Never changed.
Sorry I roved a bit there.
Never Could sell the County tractors for mowing though.
Good Luck!

I bought mine at a sale about 2 years ago that had 7 IB's 2 that ran. The ones that ran brought between $2000 and $2500. The one's that didn't run went for $1000 to $1500
of course I bought one that did't run and paid $1500 but i got lucky the mag. timing was 90 deg off. She runs nice.
BTW mine came with a wore out Detroit road broom.
The universal answer to all questions is yes, how much do you want to spend?

I have an IB with a very heavy Drott sickle bar mower on it. It is driven by a front mount hyd. pump, has 2 two way cyl. on it plus the sickle is driven by a hyd. motor.
