Let's try this agin
Hello,

To me it depends on the transmission type also does it have factory 3pt hitch?  The I-40/I-400 had three different types of transmissions: standard, 1-4 forward gears with 1 reverse gear, the reverser, 4 forward gears & 4 reverse gears, High-Low Range, 1-8 forward gears, 2 reverse gears.

My thoughts & price points:

  • Standard transmission, 1-4, R. with factory loader, and factory 3pt hitch and PTO in good condition $3,900 - $4,600.

  • Standard transmission, 1-4, R. with factory loader, and with no factory 3pt hitch or PTO in good condition $3,600 - $4,200.  (I’m hoping the clutch has not worn out after 40 years of use.)  Taking the loader off and splitting the tractor is a project to change the clutch.

  • Reverser transmission, 4 forward gears & 4 reverse gears, with factory loader, and Factory 3pt hitch and PTO in good condition $3,100 - $3,900 with no transmission. (More than likely the reverser does not stay in gear.  This was by far the worst transmission Allis Chalmers ever made.)  Let me explain why this is so my good friends, if the tractor does not come to a full stop before shifting into forward or reverse it’s only a matter of time before shifting forks and the shift gears start to wear out causing the tractor not to stay in gear.  By the away, I can say this because I three I-400s that have the reverser option and it’s almost impossible to shift without grinding the gears even when coming to a complete stop before shifting.

  • Reverser transmission, 4 forward gears & 4 reverse gears, with factory loader, and no factory 3pt hitch and PTO in good condition $2,500 - $3,100.

  • High-Low Range, 8 forward gear, 2 reverse gears with factory loader, and Factory 3pt hitch, and PTO in good condition $4,900 - $5,500.

  • High-Low Range, 8 forward gear, 2 reverse gears with factory loader, and no Factory 3pt hitch, and no PTO in good condition $4,300 - $4,500.
