Hey Guys,,,I'm glad MY "search" is finally come to a good conclusion for me,,,, ![]() I would like to pass along that, GUYS, it CAN be done when you buy a vehicle without a title and proceed to your local MVD with only a "SMILE" and a Bill Of Sale,,!!! Now, you may think your MVD only is trying to put up lots of road blocks to keep you from getting a legit title but they are only trying to control the fastly growing crime of getting titles for stolen vehicles which MVD said was happening everywhere. You see MANY, Many vehicles listed for example,on MarketPlace with "NO TITLE" AND,,,AND,,,does not necessarily mean that vehicle is stolen,,,most times it just means the registered owner cannot find the title and DOES NOT want to spend time looking for it!!! Which is what the issue was with my One Ton. The Lady at MVD (She is a Looker, that one) told me that most states recently passed similar laws to keep everybody on the up and Up! I'm gonna post a simplified list for NM MVD to help others as it ain't really difficult just that most people have no idea "what papers" they will need.

A 'new-to-me' scam bad guys have is scanner YOUR vehicle's VIN and selling THEIR stolen car with your VIN ! Saw that on TV, so maybe put 'something' to cover up the VIN tag in the dash on the drivers side !!

Joe..... seems like the "BIG DEAL" is how do you verify it is LEGIT, BEFORE you buy ? ..... Real bummer if you buy, go thru all the paper work, and then find it STOLEN ??

Some years ago I worked for a vehicle dealership in Ohio and customer's with trade ins that couldn't find titles could go to the license bureau and fill our a request for a replacement title. I have assisted several folks with that issue including for myself one time. This may not cover all situations in all states but may help someone.

I realize that every state has different thresholds for issuing a "replacement" title. I know for a fact here in Maryland, if the vehicle had never been titled in Maryland it's all but impossible, unless you have something official from another state. Now if the vehicle has a history of being titled in Maryland they will do a search and if nothing shows up as a problem, no big deal, you get a replacement title.
I've also talked to many in Va. & Pa. that if you have a legal, notarized bill of sale, it's not a big deal.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Hey Michael,,, it good to hear from you,,,it been a long time,,,,How's your world treating you,,,?,,, Since it is not titled I'm assuming it has never been registered,,? 1. Do you know who the owner of trailer is? 2. Notify your local MVD that you are going to contact Sheriff Dept for an "AFFIDAVIT OF VIN" Sheriff's Deputy will contact you to schedule a visit where trailer is located. (Get an extra copy of "AffidavIT of Vin" from MVD!! 3.Deputy will contact you to schedule a visit where trailer is located. 4. After VIN is verified by Deputy he will tell you vehicle is clear or arrest you on the spot. 5. You will have to contact a Licensed Appraiser to appraise the trailer of "ACTUAL" value of trailer,,,NOT what you paid for it ,,,but it's ACTUAL value!! MVD can give you contacts for appraisers. 5.After you receive a clear "AFFIDAVIT OF VIN", you take that PLUS a Certified APPRAISAL and go to your Insurance Company and purchase a "MOTOR VEHICLE BOND" in the amount of "TWICE" the appraiser's amount. YES, TWICE! 6. Get A " APPLICATION FOR GENERAL SURETY INDEMNITY OR CERTIFICATE OF TITLE BOND" from MVD. AND FILL OUT WITH THE INSURANCE AGENT. (MAKE DOUBLE SURE THAT VIN IS CORRECT ON ALL THE FORMS and keep copies of everything Mail the four (4) forms to DEALER LICENSING BUREAU-MVD,,,505 MARQUETT NW,,,SUITE 1501,,,ALBUQUERQUE, NM ,,,,87102. When Albuquerque approves application, they will contact you to go to your local MVD with all your papers and they will give you a completed "APPLICTION FOR VEHICLE TITLE AND REGISTRATION' then you will have to pay for taxes on trailer ands application. GOOD LUCK,,,,,!!!! |

WOW!! That sounds like it's gonna cost you some $$$$ Michael. How about going to Texas or ,,,,,,,,,,,,, NEBRASKA and have someone (we know who,,,,he has ties with the PD) get a title for it and then sell it to you for a buck? That's CRAZY Joe....I spect just another way for the govt to get into your pockets.....

Actually,,the "Motor Vehicle Bond" was the only EXTRA cost at $100. You have to pay the "Sales taxe" when the state approves the transaction and you go to MVD to actually pay for taxes, registration ,,,,just takes a lot of time,,,,

The worst thing the State ever did for Titles in Kansas.......they stopped requiring them to be notarized
Before the burden of proof on when they were sold, who sold them, and any other info on the back of that title ..........that could have created a problem DIDN"T.......because how were they going to get away with it.......the determining factor was when it was notarized Now people can and are leaving titles open, sign dead peoples names and anything to get through the system Again, no common sense, that's all gone as I have said time again. |

Sadly, it is a sign of our times,,,,The dishonest folks figure out a way to game the system and will exploit those weakness points even to convincing the elected officials to "change" the laws to keep you honest and allow THEM to better game the system,,,,It's not called "Donkey BBQ for nothing,,,Punish the masses for the doings of a FEW. We are seeing proof of that in the current congress where they have slush funds for protection of their own members and almost refuse to indict anyone much less actully remove them from their job,,,,,THEN,,,,those same officials get re-elected time after time,,,????? OK, I'm done ranting,,,

Maybe if they just stopped charging money for the whole shebang. Plate stays with the vehicle, new title can be ordered with plate or vin#. The fact it's over $200 to re-license a vehicle is a joke.
