Universal is ta hyd and a gear oil, additive package should have things included for shear, pressure and such. Also all additives used in R&O oils.
R&O should have anti-foam addative and anti-oxidants plus some water dispersal .

Hi, I have an old AC 816 backhoe and if I am reading all this correctly about the hydrolic fluid,  I should be safe in using the tractor 303 oil in the hydrolics instead of what they call for  of 30 WT oil.  Correct????   Sometimes I can't interpret correctly.  Brain dead!!!!

I appreciate the help.

Yes the universal fluid works good as hydraulic and as replacement for the motor oils called for in other than engine use. On final drives where a heavy oil is called for I would check further before replacing 90 / 120 gear lube (GL5)  or such . Some people have used it but a choice each has to make on own  .
