MY hydraulic pump has got tired after 60 years. My mechanic says with the aluminum case he doubts it will be rebuildable because of wear to the case. Anybody have any in sight to the best place to get a good pump at a reasonable price?

I love it when the repairman condemns the pump without tearing it apart. I can't think of one I ever threw away. Always FIXED what was wrong.

Yeah Doc - unless it is not an oem, the wear sections are NOT aluminum.  The aluminum sections do have grooves for seals that can break and a careless blow can break them while replacing the needle brgs - other wise - .... almost as good as new with wear plates and brgs and seals.

There is seldom a problem with the pump housing. Replace the wear plates and seals.

On some AC tractor models like the 220, the thin lip that supports the seal on one of the pump sections can crack and the seal will leak causing low hyd pressure on one of the hyd circuits such as steering.  If you just replace the seal without repairing or replacing that section then the new seal will fail, too.  Initially we thought we'd just find a used part, a parts guy had a couple used pumps with the same problem so we fixed the one we had.  My brother bored the cracked lip out, machined a steel insert to replace it, pressed it in, and machined it to the correct height.  It was a lot of work just to fix a weak point in the pump section.  An after market hyd pump was the next option.  They're too expensive to repair if you need shafts and gears.

I'd hope that the main relief valve has been ruled out as the culprit, instead of just assuming it's the pump itself. Was the pump flow-rated/tested for flow and pressure outputs ??

Yes, The flow rate and pressure were check. It is only producing 1600# cold and drops to 1400# or less warm. The main pressure relief valve was pulled cleaned and rebuilt twice just to make sure it was ruled out and that got the readings up to where it is now. Before it was around 1000# cold. I was incorrect to call the pump 60 years old as it is an after market pump as it is not painted  orange and I can find no identification marks on the exposed side telling who the maker is.

Take it off and put it in a box and UPS it to me. I'll tear it apart for free. I will assemble it fixed for an agreed to fee, but I have to see what the problem is first. P.M. me for a shipping address.

The original on my 220 had been run too long without being repaired. The groove for rubber backup had a notch ate through it.
