who we got in danger? I know Ken-in-Texas is a couple hundred miles inland and a bit East
Praying hard, this is gonna be very dangerous! Prayers for those who will be affected and those sent to help! Our local EMC was fueling up and loading the big line trucks today when I went through town, sure they'll be heading out soon.

I'm sure the powers to be here at the power co. are already gearing up and ready to send trucks West! I've been out of work with a shoulder issue and won't be part of the rescue work, but I'm sure by now we have trucks headin' that way already or on "stand by". God bless anyone in the way of this monster, and I hope has gotten outta' there. Don't try to be a hero. Its not worth your life!  Last night the weather channel was saying 130 mph winds gusting to 155! Holy crap! What could possibly still stand up after that! Prayers out to those folks affected.

I checked with a couple of connections. Wharton area said "just rain and some wind." Near Garwood area stated "saying 30 to 40 inches."  Nothing about the wind.  "house does not flood."  "gonna ride it out."  "Be here for a few days."  Ya, best to all...Dale

I'm about 300 miles north. May get some rain. I haven't heard from any of my friends in Victoria Tx where it went through this morning. It looks like Rockport is not habitable.

At a Quarter of 2PM,  Doppler Radar showed a far north rain band very close to our house between Henderson and Longview Tx.   It is perfectly still and very humid. Should be getting a little rain in the next hour.
When Rita blew by us a while back it knocked down big trees close to the house. We could not believe how strong the winds were this far from the coast

My apologies if I offended anyone posting that here, I typed several responses over the last days and then erased them.
Let it suffice to say that I hold the people here as extended family, some even closer, their safety is/was my only concern.
I have been on this site since it began, have made many friends here, I cherish those.

I hope today is a great day for everyone

Joe your real friends will just blow it of as a mere slip of the tongue and forget about it. It's times like these that people are tense with concern and worry for friends and family that they'll react in a non kind way. I've done it, every one has. Sometimes in spite of our best intentions we flub up. So don't worry about it. Just keep us posted from you area.

JoeM, Leon's comment about says it all.  Don't worry about those that make rude remarks, I have siad and written stuff that sounded and looked good for the way I thought, but others read what they wanted to into what was written and put their puncutations in to make the words read totally different and were thus offended.  Don't need interactions with those kind.... to short fused.  And lately for some reason, I don't mind offending certain types of people, I say what I think and if they don't like it, they can be offended or whatever.  And yes, Texas needs prayers and lots of help... what they don't need is thieves and hucksters and scammers and greedy people taking advantage of them in their time of crises. God be with them.

I live in Katy which is suburb of Houston.  It's unbelievable, water everywhere.   I missed the actual storm.    I was up in Colorado Fly fishing when it hit.  Flight was cancelled twice so I rented a car and drove home.  Took about 15 to get the Houston Area, about 20 minutes from my house..  Had to sleep in the car due to high water.  Took another 10 hours and a 200 mile detour to finally get home.  Water was up to slab but hasn't come in yet.  Hopefully it will stop soon.  I think my car at the airport  parking is underwater.  I did go feed my cows using the 185 and almost  stuck it(Allis discussion page worthy).  Neighbor at farm says we got 36 inches of rain in 3 days.   There's a lot of people hurting.  Going to help a friend tomorrow who got 20 inches of water throughout his house.

A guy we have leased a farm from for decades lives on Dairy Ashford Road in Houston about four blocks from the Bayou.  I tried to call both his landline and his cell and both went to voicemail.  I guess all of the phones and cell towers must be down.  Anyone know if that area is underwater?

Something I learned when the tornado hit just south of OKC a few years back. Could not reach coworkers at our OKC branch to check on them and a fella on the local radio station relayed info that AT&T asked to be broadcast.
When trying to reach a mobile number in an area where lines are all busy due to call attempt traffic, shoot them a text as it is a 1-2 second burst and will hit the number you are trying nearly every time.
Voice call attempts tend to keep lines tied up enough that many cannot connect due to volume of calls.
