I'm in a bind- being deployed in four weeks and have a D17/loader in a warehouse where the owner wants it gone asap. Went there last night with a buddy and trailer and it wouldn't start. (Points were dry and not scorched, sparks from the line and plugs, fuel was flowing....maybe a little too much? Smelled of gas) I'll keep trying to get her running today and tomorrow even though the trailer is no longer available. But I'm trying to figure out a 'safety net' - meaning how does a person raise a loader (#417), keep it raised, then drag a D17 beast out of a warehouse and up onto a trailer?! I'm in the St Paul area of MN so if you know of a person/place that can do such a thing, I may need to line them up.

jack up the loader and cut  pieces of 2 x 4 or angle iron long enough to brace up the loader boom.  Measure from the top of the lift cylinder cases/tubes to the pins and then wire them in place so loader can't settle.  Winch onto trailer/use a come-a-long or use a push/pull bar onto trailer.

Long chain tied to front axle and slid under the loader bucket, so it will lift the bucket when you pull it with another tractor or pickup truck. Have tractor in gear so the engine will spin over and raise the loader with hydraulics as the engine spins. Hose clamp an angle iron to the boom cylinders so it cannot creep down too far.

You can jack up the loader with anything and then cut a piece of angle iron and lay on the cylinder rod  and wrap a hose clamp around it for safety. Hook a chain to it and pull it outside. To get it on a trailer you will need a come-a-long which can be bought at any farm store or most likely at any big hardware store. Hook your cable to it and start ratcheting it on. When out of cable hook a chain to hold it while you reset the cable and go again. If you have plenty of money just call a towing company as they will have a roll back truck with a winch that can easily handle a d17. Tom

Lift a corner of the bucket with your handyman jack. Slip you tow cable or chain under it and attach to the front bolster of the tractor. As you pull on the cable it slightly lifts the bucket. It'll kinda slide along but if you hold the tractor brakes the cable tension will lift it completely. You'll want it back down to chain to the trailer any way so blocking it up is a waste. If you must block it up for some reason a ram stop on each cylinder works the best. If you don't have ran stops. Make them from heavy CPVC just cut to length split in half and use a couple screw clamps to hold in place. I've used the same cable under method to move my WD 45 with a 1400 lb snowblower into my shop. With a light trip bucket loader it lifts the bucket about knee high with just rolling resistance. If you have powered down force you need to hold the lever back to let the pressure out of the down side of the cylinder.

I had a similar problem and I used my 7010 to raise the loader by disconnecting the loader lines from the non-starting tractor and reconnecting to the rear remotes on my 7010. I was able to raise the loader with the hydraulic lever in the cab. Once up, I disconnected from rear remotes and it stayed in place. My loader does not creep down though. If your loader creeps down or drops after disconnecting, then you will have to use some method of securing it up as outlined above. I did have the luxury of some extra long hydraulic hoses laying around that I used between the two tractors. You will lose some hydraulic fluid so be sure to have a pan to catch it when you switch lines. Storage guy might not like that. I actually pull started my tractor because I knew it was a starter issue, and got it home. Good luck on whatever method you use!

If you have a good battery, put the tractor in neutral, push the loader lever in the raise position, and crank the engine over.  It will be slow but it should raise high enough for your purpose.

Do like John(MI) said but also take the spark plugs out. It'll spin faster with no compression.

Just make sure you don't push in the foot clutch when you crank on it. It has to be engaged to run the hydraulic pump

I loaded a D14 by pulling it backwards with a winch with the loader bucket dragging on the ground. I pulled a D17 with a front blade by running a chain under the blade also.

If you have a Hydra Bed or DewEze bale mover on your pickup.  Chain the bucket to the bale arms and lift.
To keep from scratching the chrome, place an old gunny sack or towel over the cylinder rods.  Ues a large hose clamps or baling wire angle iron to the cylinders.  Release pressure and remove the chain.
Winch the tractor onto the trailer.  Chain it down.

If this is a Series iv I'm surprised that no one has offered to come and take this problem off your hands for the right price.

Years ago I towed a Deere 7000 planter for someone and it wasn’t locked up( took sellers word and didn’t look) got 70 miles home and realized it was drifting down.   I jacked it up some loosened a hydraulic fitting to let a bit of oil out and repeated till I could lock it up. Poster should be able to do something similar with the loader might even be able to use a engine hoist. I pulled my stunt in a restaurant parking lot.
