 Topic: How much weight can a B lift?

I know that this has been asked before but I finally got the hydraulics on my B going and I was wondering how much weight the stock b cylinder can lift. I have a heavy disk that i want to use but that hydraulic ram looks awfully small.

If your pump and cylinder are in top notch condition (most aren't anymore), a little math shows that the B cylinder is capable of just over 1400 lbs of force. If you are using that cylinder on an aftermarket or homemade 3 point hitch, the amount of lift will be quite a bit less, and would require a bunch more math to figure out. I can tell you that my C needs two of the stock cylinders to lift a 2-bottom Wiard plow that weighs about 300 lbs, and the pump has been rebuilt and set at 3200 PSI per the service manual.

B plow lift seems like it could easily pick up the front of tractor of mine, if the plow is buried... with no weights on front. I suspect it would be hard on the mechanism though. That little rockshaft always seems light to me, the single pickup plow seems like plenty for it.

I guess I could always put a low pressure high volume hydraulic cylinder on there. It would just take forever to raise and lower the disk.

i built a 3pt for the c i used to have. i used both rams. was good enough to pick up a 6ft tandem heavy duty disc. had to back over to the garden to try it out. no front weights. then i cut the disc in half. no i have an 871 ford, wish i still had the back half of the disc. it worked at the time though. lowell

Ya that's true. The B just wasn't designed to do any heavy lifting. I'll just have to try it and see what happens. If it won't lift it then that gives me an excuse to go buy a bigger tractor :)
