It all depends on the soil and conditions. We had a two bottom for our D17s in the tough alfalfa fields. Other times 3 bottoms was just right. Those tough conditions give our 185 a good load with a three bottom but should usually have four on it.

Also what model of plow. I have a 4 bottom plow that the D-17 will not pull, but if you stay with the #50 - #80 series all should be good.

Very nice pictures of the 5 bottom plows on the D17. Sounds like correct plows and correct soil conditions are some of the factors to make this system work.

Pictures are awesome! I never saw a cultivator set up like that! Is that a 4 row?
The 17 and the corn planter shots are very good representation. What type of seeds are being planted? I assume corn but could be other seeds too? Have to find my camera and get some pictures of mine in light duty action too. Regards, Chris |

I use that planter for corn and beans. Corn in this case. It is a planter that was cut down from 8 rows to 2.

I never have either, but the cushion deluxe seat and power steering were OPTIONAL on a D-17 series 4.

Ok folks,
I finally got some time and found the camera. Some shots of the D17 loafing while the little Ford (yes the F word) cuts slab wood for making syrup next spring. Its a stretch to call it work but its not a tractor show either!:) ![]() ![]() I cut 6 cord per year and this may be the last year from this pile of slabs. Lots of sorting to get good ones. ![]() The 3 point buzz rig at its best. ![]() The trailer has been repainted to match Allis colors! ![]() ![]() ![]() We have cut out of this pile for about 4 years and heated the house one year from there also. My son used these to heat his house two years. The D17 didn't even know there was anything behind it on these small loads, about 1/4 cord. ![]() Regards, Chris |

That saw is one of those things I need to get. Sure makes cutting the smaller stuff go faster.
