my clearance ground to front steering horizontal and also to rear end drain plug is 22".
I always thought that was a little higher than "normal".  is it?

I'm long and lanky and doc says I'm in pretty good shape for a 40yr old, and I still have a little difficulty getting my actually 76 year old bones up there...
but it's worth it every time! Big smile
3 Ford 8N's I loan to neighbors, but the '52CA, '41B and little B1 I do not.

I would like to take that 'hot rod" for a ride!!LOL

I'm very fortunate in that at 73+ i can still get on and off most of my equipment without any trouble.  The '39 'B' is much easier 'cause it has the Monroe seat so just climb on off the drawbar.  And of course the 20-35's you just step in from the back!

WD is probably the worst as it has an Oxnard blade that you have to climb over.  Maybe that's what keeps me limbered up as that's the one I'm on and off of the most!

Well, I don't how I will be at 70, but at 65 so far I don't have a problem getting on and off my B. Or for that matter any of my Tractors. And they're not built close to the ground like I am either. I'll have to keep chasing Jo Jo around the property to keep in shape.  Big smile

A few years ago I bought a very, very nice restored B with a excellent Woods belly mower for $850 at an auction. Hated getting on and off so much I gave it away for $1750.

I need to have Dixie take a video of me getting on and off a B or C.

I back up to the right side rear tire, hook my right heel on the drawbar with my left hand on the tire. I lift myself with my left leg and right arm so my rear is on the edge of the seat. I can then slide across the seat and draw my left foot past the gear shift, then slide back in the center of the seat placing my right foot on the brakes.

If it was worked more than just riding on the road, how long would it take to twist shafts or strip gears in the drive train?

New owner better get the polish on it fast. She's about to rust.. It would be fun to watch at the fair for a few minutes.

The biggest problem I see is that's an awful lot of weight on that poor wishbone front axle. Would worry about it collapsing on me.

thanks steve,

if anybody has old issues of old allis news. about 15 or 18 years ago there is 2 page article of history of BUDS B.
been busy last 10 years, new young guys next door had cookout last summer and had motorcycles and hotrods and beer, thought I'd show them what old hot rod looked like
rolled it out of storage, blew cobwebs off her, added fuel, ran file thru points, stole battery out of something else and took off.
young guys got big kick out of her. stainless lugnuts on rear are what she got after coming out of long sleep.

Jay,
I got ya beat. I'm 65+- what's that got to do with anything.  You make yourself sound like an old coot. Heck, Dick L. has us both beat and he's still havin' fun! No problem feeding that beast. A 3/8" steel fuel line and a fuel pump that moves 4-5 psi. No problem!  Might have a little problem gettin' her stopped.  Plenty of GO!  Not enough Whoa!! Might havta' add some juice brakes!  Big smile

I have a '50 ford custom on my refurb list here.  2 door with huge back seat.
maybe I'll swap engines with one of the 8N's and see how that works...

then again, maybe not.  LOL

Hay Steve
what can I say.. I'm getting old(64+)...OK..somebody, not the seller, started a project but it's no where near 'done up'. Paint and lipstick aside ,just HOW does a thirsty V8 get enough gas in that itty bitty gasline through a sediment bowl ? 2-3 vrump, vrumps and it'd starve !
to top it off, Shameless is back and got the machine up and running AND pointing MY way ! arrghh..

Oh brother Jay! Another Mr. Doom n' Gloom! I'd rather see one like that than see it go to the junk heap or for scrap! With over 100,000 units produced, once in a while ya gotta' have a hotrod B in there somewhere ya know?  Would do ya expect? The poor thing has been sittin' in a shed for 5 years. Its gonna have a little rust here n' there sheesh!  LOL!

Hot rod B?  Sounds like fun.

That hot rob B?  Let's just say that if I was going to have a hot rod B, I'd prefer to brew my own.
