Well, My home town Artesia Bulldogs, have done it again, winning the 5A State Football Championship beating Roswell 35-21 this past Saturday for their 32nd time in Bulldog Bowl. BULLDOG BOWL has twice been featured on ESPN and is the only football stadium to garner the centerfold of National Geographic. This win places the Bulldogs tied for 2nd place in the nation for most state championships. Congratulations to all the players and their coaches for a job well done,,!!

Years ago,(5-10) when I used to regularly run to Artesia, and load fuel at the refinery I would occasionally listen to the games on the local am radio station. Actually listened to that radio station a lot if I was in NM doing deliveries around Artesia, Loco Hills, Carlsbad, Loving, Eunice, Hobbs, etc.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Shoot Lars,,,I had no idea you were from my stomping grounds around Artesia. Good ole KSVP,,it is still going strong and is who televises the regular season games.,,.I retired from that refinery after 31 years. All five of our boys played on those Football teams of years past and three of the boys played on one of those Championship teams.

Joe, actually was running to Artesia when I lived and worked in Midland.
I got to know the supervisor that was was in charge of the gasoline and diesel fuel loading rack.
I recall his name was Marcos?, and another fellow who was an Native Indian can’t recall his name. It’s been a few years since I’ve been out that way. I recall many times waiting in line at that rack for several hours to load.
I see a few months ago, Holly Frontier merged with Sinclair, now the company is HF Sinclair?
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

I’m guessing he’s less than interested in high school football. That and/ or there’s some kids on his lawn.

That is an achievement that speaks about a community much more than that you have a few very good athletes going to school there. Unless you have a mega bucks town father that imports talent from all over the world. There was a church run school here that did that  for a time. But I think the money dried up again, or at least moved to bigger city.

But to have that long of run means a lot of adults are taking part in and giving time and attention to the youth of your community. Thumbs Up

How come there is a 30 point spread in the green zone and only 25 in the red zone and is there a sensitivity adjustment for calibration?

Love to watch the high school games. It is sad though when you don't see many adults/parents in the stands. Most of those kids play their hearts out and many will not go to college on a scholarship but they deserve the support of the community.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Hey Hubert,,,You are SO right!!!  a big percentage of those athletes do not have a good home life and struggle even more so when their parents do not take time to at least go and watch them play their hearts out,,,SO SAD!!
This school system has several different parental groups that make sure every athelete whether boy or girl,, is paid attention to every week. I belonged to The Quarterback Club for 14 years spread out over all the years my five boys participated  in the different sports. During the first meeting of the year we would pick as many as 5 boys to be our Quarterback "Sons" and we would visit with every one of them  to praise them with any help they wanted and take them to the Pizza Hut at least once a week. Quarterback Club members had access to the field House after each game and we would go in and give em a pat on the back, whether they played or not,,,I KNOW they all appreciated it greatly.
Fact is,,,I recently  had one of my Quarterback Sons from the 1980's call me and thank me for keeping him lined out and headed the right direction! He had gone to work for the Sheriff's Dept and recently retired from them,,,Imagine!!
That Tradition runs deep and is what makes them boys and girls really play their hearts out,,cause they KNOW all them codgers like ole Joe are watching,,,,ClapClap

That’s awesome in many ways!

High school sports are wonderful. I miss chasing my kids all over this quadrant of the state like crazy. Our house was definitely the “team house” for the boys and my daughter. Was nothing to come home to a yard full of cars and a kitchen full of kids having a pregame snack. We’d often go through 8-10 gallons of milk per week!

During my school years, Dad was an over the road truck driver, and living out in the country, Mom with 5 children and she, a product of the Great Depression, declared after school activities/sports was strictly verboten.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

That is great again Joe.  I'm glad to see that there are other 'ole codgers' that go to the games and cheer these kids on.  I did it for my kids and now am STILL doing it for the grand kids.
I go up to 2 hours away 2 to 3 times a week cheering them on.  And, it never stops!!  Cross country turns into football to basketball to track to golf to tennis and baseball.......  I'm forgetting something there,,,,,,,,,,,, but I get to see them all.  And a lot of stuff is where we grandparents and great grandparents OUTNUMBER the parents!!
I've made a LOT of friends over the years and from our adversaries also.  A lot of the kids are in multiple sports and so I meet these people quite a few times during the year.  It's a LOT of fun and just about everyone is cheering for ,,,,,,,,,,, not the team, but for the players, no matter which team.  You don't have that in the big schools / cities.
