How hard or easy is it to put a HI/LO gear box on a F? Also does anyone have one they would sell? I have some very hilly ground and would like slower ground speed especially if I would need to back up a hill, I don't think it would have the power to do it without some gear reduction.

Always knew there was such a thing, but in reality.....never seen one. You can swap your "change gears" around and slow everything down about 20% or so.

doubt you find one - only on special order, mostly in Rice and n.west and California. (mud) They bolted on the side of the trans where the change gears are Dr. mentioned. IF you have the entire thing it will bolt on - the linkage for the shifter would be a bear. We also had some kind of issue with the park brake seal if memory serve correct. Keep in mind many have BEEN changed and the hydros come in slow speed. Found that out the hard way many years ago.

we only have 1 in our entire collection, and dad is pretty attached to it. IIRC its a 68 or 69 F.

Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine.
If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help. |

Yeah I'll probably end up changing the gears around, I hate to loose the speed on the road but I can manage if need be. Its more important to be able to get through the field then go fast down the road.

To me more importantly , if you are on that kind of terrain , how are you keeping the combine from throwing alot out the back ?
