    Posted: 31 Dec 2016 at 3:50am
I need a bit of advice here. Please have mercy, before you get off on the kick about never rebuilding a fuel injection pump yourself, I absolutely, positively do not have the money, now or ever to send this in to get rebuilt. It's more important to feed my kids than feed money into this tractor, so it's either do this or start parting out the tractor. I have been very, very carefully disassembling this pump while my daughter films the whole thing closely with her fancy video equipment, just in case I need to reference back. I also have a rebuild manual but it can be vague at times and says nothing about how to get out stuck parts. The tractor has been sitting and, unknown to me, had lost it's fuel through a leaking priming pump, so now it won't start. I've found the problem. The plungers are stuck down. I think Ed suggested that this was probably going to be the problem in an earlier post. So my question is, how do I get them out? It's like they're glued. I don't want to get even remotely rough with this. I've soaked it in diesel and then in SeaFoam with no luck. I've got PB Blaster on it right now, but I doubt it'll work. Could I use hot water to loosen this up? How about soaking it in acetone? Thanks for any help!

I can go over to the college on Tuesday when they reopen and see it there. Does it show how to manipulate out these stuck plungers?

Thanks for the help!

Like Mack said, you have to tap them out very, very carefully, not to damage them or the bore. Get yourself a few cans of brakeleen. It will dissolve the varnish to clean parts up. You don't need penetrating oil because they aren't rusted in, they are gummed up. Dissolve all the varnish. Good luck, and just take your time to make sure everything is clean! Lube parts upon assembly with fresh clean diesel. Odd are, the delivery valve will be stuck too, so be sure to take everything apart and free it all up. Just getting the plungers free may cause more problems if you don't make sure the DV moves, as well as the transfer pressure regulator.

Ok, that worked great. A bit of break clean and then I lightly tapped it through. They came out nice. So, I've now disassembled everything except there is the delivery valve still stuck in the bore. I have it soaking in break cleaner now. Is there a good method of getting this part out? The manual mentions that it can stick and that a tool can be used to pull it out. I don't have the tool, so is there another way? Thanks again for all the help!

That worked great. I've disassembled the DV assembly and the delivery valve is stuck in the bottom. I've been soaking it with brake cleaner but it's not coming loose yet. It's the very last piece. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Haha! I've heard that. The one in it looks brand new. It's tempting just to call it good.

That would make for a problem wouldn't it? Smile I just got the crazy washer replaced. It was a bunch of work. I couldn't get snap ring pliers to work at all. I ended up using two small screwdrivers like chopsticks.

Oops, nope, I don't get any golds. This went back together a world easier than it came apart! But I had one problem... I went to Auto Zone and got an inch pounds torque wrench to make sure I put this pump back together to the specs in my manual. The governor bar was the first one that I had to set the wrench down really low (20 inch pounds). I was tightening this nut with ONE finger on the wrench and suddenly the end broke off. The wrench never broke over. I don't know if was me not seeing it, but I was being real careful or if the wrench didn't do it's job at that low a setting. Regardless, I need a new square governor pivot rod for a DBGFC pump. Anyone have a spare laying around I can buy?? Besides this the pump is completely assembled and ready to put back on the tractor. That the real test! Thanks all!!
