    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 at 8:54am
Looking to see if anyone has any of the shelves that dealers used for their parts. I'm needing to make a couple unit since finding some are difficult at a realistic price. I'll just build my own if I can get some dimensions and pics outta someone. Thanks

most I've ever seen were a base unit of drawers about 2 ft high, with the open shelving above that, each bin about 1 ft x 1 ft in size, and each row set back about an inch as each row went up. most were about 8-9 shelves high. and of course all were painted orange.

The board dimensions listed are actual size if from 1936.  A 1" board was 1" thick then not the 3/4" they are now

Here is a pic of the parts shelf's I have. They came out of a old Allis dealer. I could take some measurements of them for you if you want.

Was there a master list from AC of what was in these bins or were they filled at dealer's own discretion?
Recommended?
It sure would be nice to have a list to start off with?

Thinking here how nice it would be.

Looks like you need to find someone that can rough cut the wood and then run it thru a planer.  I don't think you can find ttrue size dimensional lumber, but I could be wrong  .  .  .  happened once before!! Big smile

I have also seen shelves that were tapered. I'd also like to construct some of these or buy a set if I ever get space for them.

Not sure you can see but ours are tapered to. Now is there a time period to the bin design. I'd have to ask dad again but I almost think he said gramp bought out an old allis dealer at the time and bins came from there.

I might be able to get you in contact with a guy who just bought property with old shop from a old international dealer. If there even still in there. It's been long time sense IV been in there

Here is a counter that came from the G&G Allis-Chalmers dealership of Luck Wi.  The pic shows the dealers side of the counter. Bought lots of parts over that counter top over the years till they sold out.  Very similar counter was in the Fallstrom A-C dealership in Falun Wi.

You got me wondering about the index cards and filing system, did it come from AC also? Then  Mikez said something about index cards so you really got me wondering.

Would be hard for me to guess what mite of been AC or some other company's idea of how shelf's should of been as local dealer sold Allis Chalmers,New Holland,Massey Ferguson,Sabot(compact Japaneses tractors),and GMC trucks.

I cannot say for sure about the timing but dealer stayed until Duetz Allis was in the picture. Didn't know what happened with Massey, but NH pulled the plug on them as a dealer and that was the end.  And Shameless is going to be in aAngry mood, the John Deere dealership bought them to get the GMC franchise. If you will sleep better Shameless JD dealer went out only 3 or 4 years latter. I have know idea of what new parts may have been in the building when the JD dealer sold it out to bare walls at auction cause I didn't have a spare penny in them days.

What are the dimensions of the parts counter?  I've been thinking of building one for a while...
