They were all 12 volt. I have a regular wiring diagram from operator book. But nothing showing how to wire coil up.

If you have push-button start you don't need a solenoid.

Is a Briggs & Stratton 243431. The old owner converted the ignition switch from magneto to a coil and is not giving me a good spark, so I thought to put a magneto back in how it has to be.

Any pictures? Hard telling where it could be wired wrong, but converting to a battery ignition with a typical coil is extremely simple. But, getting the wiring right is only part of the equation. Need to have a good coil, good condenser, clean/gapped points, good plug, etc. I'd start with wiring.
First, the key switch needs to be swapped as well. Your hot lead will go to it now, and then on to your coil, whereas the OEM key switch was simply a ground to the points. Your starter button remains, and is wired in no different than with the magneto armature setup. The coil will need a condenser wired to the (-) terminal, and the same to the points. This is for an internal ballast coil. If you don't have an internally resisted coil, then you need to add a ballast to the (+) wire to the coil. ![]() |

These pics sure make the explanation a lot clearer.
This would be a very good article to add to the knowledge base.
