    Posted: 26 Nov 2016 at 6:39pm
Dear Forum Friends,

My favorite tractor of all time, the 56 WD-45 that I grew up on, is leaking terribly from the front main seal.  Also leaks some from the back one.  I have never torn an engine down in my life, but there is no mechanic around my old home place to do the job.  So I'm considering doing the job myself, with your help.

First question (probably seems dumb to most of you) is:  Can I replace the front seal without tearing the engine down?  Any way to replace that seal from the bottom if I remove the pan?

I've looked at the video about replacing these seals on this site a couple times, and it will be very helpful.  But I'm still vainly hoping I can come up from underneath for the front one.

Whaddaya think?

Thanks, Terry

would reccomend pulling the engine, put it on a stand, take pan off and replace pan gasket and rear main. rear main bearing cap has the main seal in it.

Front seal could be done in chassis. Rear seal the engine has to be pulled.

When you get the rear main out, get back on hear and some one will give you the do's and don't's before you start back togather.   MACK
