I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN ALLIS 706 ROUGH TERRAIN LIFT. IT NEEDED A LOT OF TLC WHICH I HAVE BEEN GIVING IT THIS WINTER. I THOUGHT I WAS FINNISHED AND WAS CHECKING OIL LEVELS. THE DRIVE AXLE WAS REALLY LOW BUT WHEN I HAD PUMPED IN ENOUGH OIL TO SEE IT I NOTICED OIL RUNNING OUT BOTH BRAKE ROD HOLES. AFTER STUDYING THE PARTS AND SERVICE MANUAL, IT LOOKS TO ME THAT THE BRAKE COMPARTMENT RUNS IN OIL, AND THE SEALS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE AROUND THE BRAKE CONTROL RODS ACTUALLY HOLD OIL IN AXLE ASSEMBLY. CAN ANYONE TELL ME FOR SURTE ABOUT THIS?

Pretty sure you are correct, especially if the brakes seemed to work OK.
