Bed side manners don't count Eldon. My doctor is a jerk but he knows his stuff. I can overlook a great deal of being rough around the edges as long as he performs. Maybe he's used to working on green patients in the past? LOL

Well the tractor is home....only cost me $497 for them to put on my pump. I pulled the 14' tandem disc around with it for about an hour, it is running fine and a lot quieter than before. I'm not sure if the mechanic that had replaced the pump before had it timed wrong or if the Lucas pump is just louder. Anyways, it seems the CAV off of a 236 will work fine on a 248...wish I would have known, I could have done it myself in the time it took to make 3 trips to the repair shop. Anyone need a Lucas pump????

At least thats all that was wrong with it...And its working good. I understand the $500 pain though...But the tractor has got to worth $7500...Glad it worked out o.k., Trev.

Glad to hear you're out of the tractor-hospital....even though the costs hurts your feelings and pocketbook! Odd about not being able to test it.
I had asked if it was possible to test a coil for a gas AC175 engine...was told no too! Baled about 650 sq bales of straw Sat., and was putting my high-crop AC175 to bed, and noticed oil pouring out around the PTO shaft..... Does that sound like a bearing, seal, and /or O ring? Have you had that yet? |

Bruce it is the seal.....you can buy an aftermarket seal, but the AC seal is better (if available) and has a felt packing to go with it. I bought a leaky 170 and it had an aftermarket (thin) seal in it. I replaced it with a NOS from my stash and no more leaks.

Seals come in OD, ID, thickness and seal style. Some are single lip, some are triple lip or quadruple lip and variations in between. Some use the force of the rubber, some have a spring to make a tighter seal. Go to www.baumhydraulics.com and download their catalog section on bearings and seals, I think its section R. It shows three brands and many possibilities for each size.
