the hits won't stop. I am just about complete with the restoration of my dad's HD5B and I found a small leak at the front of the dozer that just started. I found the hydraulic pump for the dozer leaking slightly out the shaft seal. I have had the dozer in the shop about 1-1/2 years since I started the major restoration. has anyone had this issue that when you started running it again the leak stopped? the pump is a hydreco 2025g1gb. I have several spare pumps but this is the best one. I took one of the spares apart and the way the mechanical seal looks is like it seals better the more pressure the pump has thus I thought that running it might make it better. Does anyone know of a hydreco dealer that I can get parts from? any help is appreciated. I hope this is the last hurtle as I need the machine for some mountain road building. thanks

Mine was leaking some and had place look at it that said they could fix anything - NOPE said it was shot beyond repair - ended up putting it back in service - has not leaked since
I had found a rebuilt Vickers pump for the early HD5 machines but they used a different drive plate which I could not find .
a 30 GPM pump for the 5G is tough to find as is modifying a new unit to fit .

278.00 for the seal lit. OMG! I am going to try it as is and see what happens. I have 5 other pumps, all look like they leak at the front seal. if the original still leaks I will rebuild one of them. I have the same part number that is in the 5g parts book, not sure if we just had a lot of them or they are the same as the dozer. I cannot find my dozer book to check the part numbers. anyone have a grade builders (I think that is what it is called) book for the hd5?

Post a picture of the pump seal. If it is a round shaft seal it could be available from a bearing dealer. I have fabricated shaft seals that I was unable to purchase.
Good luck

believe the output capacity was less on the 5B
Wear on the 5G pump internals also lead to less capacity - pump on mine use to stall engine when lifting to full height on bucket - would drag engine down quickly if levers were not brought to neutral position - - over 40 years it has gotten to where it's barley noticeable now of any power drain. Wear plates on pump as well as other parts internally allow bypass
