Hello, I have an HD5 and have discovered that one of the control racks is stuck in the fuel shut off position.  It feels like steel on steel stuck.  I have used some penetrating oil but have little faith.  I'm no engine mechanic.  I assume if the control rack can't be moved I will have to remove the injector.  Is this correct?  If so could someone walk me through taking the injector out?  Thank you.  Mark

Be very careful with those old Detroit's. If you get them a little off they will run away on you. I Was a Detroit mechanic for a while, but its been 45 years since I worked on one, better let someone else help you.

Unbolt rocker bolts, leave bolts hanging in stands and force over center away from injector.(push rods are spring loaded).Remove rack control tube, fuel lines, injector clampand get a hook bar under body and pry up/out.It will have carbon baked around nozzle but comes easy once broke loose. Prefer you clean hole in head of carbon and the copper seat before installing. I never worked on an injector, just bought remans. Setting injector height(timing) is not as easy as it looks and "close" isn't close enough.Adjusting rack control tube is tricky too. Timing and control tube adjustment makes the difference between "it will run" and runs like it's supposed to.

First, welcome to the forum.  Second, You should read and post in the appropriate forum, in this case, the construction equipment section.  There was just a thread, on a similar problem:
