Sorry, I don't know about parts availability but I wonder if you are right about the TC fluid. Usually they use Dexron automatic transmission fluid, (red like diesel fuel).

Early torque converters did run on diesel fuel. They were made by twin disc corporation; who are still in the same business today. Converter should have a model tag on it. Try a twin disc service agent if the numbers correspond to any info they have.

They did. Story around here of one being refueled in the dark after a hot day on a chaining job. Operator used a cig lighter to check the fuel level. Lost his eyebrows but not the dozer. |

Ian, kind of a funny follow up story(OT) that was somewhat like yours. One of the drivers in the same company I was leased to showed up one day with a tremendous suntan. I asked his boss how he got such a tan in the middle of winter. In the real cold parts of winter we used to add some gas to the diesel to thin it out to keep it from jelling. (Not a good idea). Well, this drivers fuel gauge had broken so he decided to see how much fuel he had by the light of his cig. lighter. Forgetting he had been using the gas additive he leaned over to look in the tank and struck his lighter. Instant explosion. And that's the way he got his winter suntan.

Try John Parks at General Gear... They should have a website and are excellent to deal with for parts
... Sorry, on road and don't have a phone number handy !! Good luck... Diesel Fuel Torque converter is correct, early CAT Torque converter tractors also did this !!

There is an HD19 in our area that has been hotrodded (now an 8V71 and 6 speed manual), which IIRC originally had a diesel converter, so their use spans from there to somewhere in the HD 21 series. |

The HD16 used diesel too.

The diesel converter started way back in the 40's with the HD14C, and was used into the early 60's. Im sure for the right money, yours may be able to be rebuilt or a new one made from a converter producer.

yes, my brother has some other videos of it on his youtube also. It has been a very reliable machine. It was originally from a county landfill where it pulled a cable scraper and wasn't abused. We bought it from the second owner who had installed a blade on it. That blade in the video is from our 16D parts machine as the one on it from previous owner was sourced from a quarry tractor and just plum worn out.
