Hi,
I wanted to know if the GM 4-71 used in the HD10 is the low block version or is it the later High Block? Is there a Allis model that uses the low block? Cheers |

Unsure of designation on the engine in block , as the date of this would be pre 1955 guess one could look up when the change was made.

One change was on the serial number plate. Before 1947, the designation was 71, after it was A. The change from low block to high block was about then. I ain't for sure, long time ago.

When Detroit changed the piston/rod design in the engines during the big drive to put them in trucks they changed the blocks, I believe that was in 49. Previous to then these engines were only destined for marine and industrial applications.
