Happy New Year AC Guys!
I am considering purchase of a 1958 HD6 G High Lift. 500 hours on the dial, track link height is excellent as are the rollers, idler and sprockets. Defect is that reverse gear is out of the transmission. Was hoping that I would find that the unit was made by Clark but am not sure who made the transmission. This tranny is set up with the two speed reverse. Would certainly appreciate your insights on who manufactured the transmission for the HD5's and 6's and if gears and synchros might be available yet. If I could source those parts this machine would be put back into service. Thank - you...Orangeman

arent any syncros in the AC transmission - all straight cut gears .
Should be same as HD5 in the output of trany mains shaft is also pinion gear for rear drive . the output of trany is supported by double row ball bearing and gear mesh is controlled by shimming that bearing to ring gear and by shims of timken bearings on the side bearings which support the drives for clutch pack. I have a set of gears for the single speed trany used in the HD5 - but sold the 2 speed HD5 I had as a spare.

Coke: Thanks for the reply, I see Allis had a long term relationship with Borg Warner for Allis Transmission at least that was the case for farm equipment.
Who was the vendor that built AC crawler and dozer transmissions for the HD5 and HD 6's? I think was happened is the operator had the rpm up to high and did not throttle down and slammed the machine into reverse with a real heavy load thus the damage. Orangeman

Gemdozer: I will be in touch through PM when I work through the contract on the machine. Likely will be spring as snow on ground here in Northern NY.
