Have seen some talk on other forums about this show. First airs at 10 P.M. Eastern tonight. Suppose to be following custom cutters during the wheat harvest. Might be some Gleaners on it.

I watched it. Normal history channel production style. Got to watch the same plug in the NH 3 times. Good way to fill up a hour though.

Talk about a gambling adiction. The guys that do this kind of work got it bad. As a matter of fact anybody that plants a seed is taking a gamble every time they do it and the stakes get higher the bigger you get.

The guy with the hat was the forman for that crew. Interesting show, shows what  the crews have to deal with as well as full time farmers.

I'll watch the show as long as its on, but i really don't like the doom and gloom death defying sentiment. I think it sends the wrong message. These machines are incredibly safe save for operator stupidity, and i would not appreciate the way they portray it, especially if i were one of the manufacturers featured on the show.

I DVR'd it so I am going to watch it tonight wanna see how they portray it because when I was out of HS I did the harvest run, and I encourage any farm kid to ( I was a city kid at the time) it was not a money making expeirence but it was something I wouldnt trade. One thing it did do was ground me, I worked for my uncle at the time, he had a pretty big dairy operation here in Wis. at the time  the"big" operators had some arrogance to them, and still do by the way, well when the first place you cut wheat on is a farm of 142,000 acres and you harvested 32,000 acres of wheat and 8,000 of barley it kinda gives you the real world version of big.

I tend to agree, I get so tired of these reality shows, over hyping every little thing.  Every move is a death defying feat, or someone was nearly killed by that crab pot falling, but only because of the camera angle did it even look close.  The IRT is the worst, every truck on the road is going to sink, and every driver is going to die stuff just gets old after a while, but it is the only way to sell it to the yuppies that don't know any better.  It would be to boring if it was factual

Watched it last night when I got in, and my review would be 2 thumbs DOWN. Hyped up over dramatic BS. Those crews and owners should hold there head in shame for letting themselves be used like that, I know they get paid, but come on. The harvesters I encountered were very professional, and its no joke what there doing, they are right that these guys are heavily financed and they need to roll to make money, but they dont load n go just to get there in the nick of time. I am not sure why all these reality shows always have all this time pressure as part of the drama. They werent cutting wheat in northern Texas in the middle of may, and if crews were in texas the next crew wouldnt be in Kansas cutting over ripe weedy wheat (that wasnt much for weeds). The harvest starts out in the middle of may in southern Az, CA, and moves west to southern central texas by early June and moves roughly 100miles a day north. The sound effects of stalling motors and not cranking engines is just ridiculous, the guy was driving a Kenworth, and radios the he dropped a valve (like a driver would know that because it stalled) and they tow away a ford. THe guy with the New Hollands combine reel shots are from a New Holland haybine cutting hay, you cant push these combines any faster because weather is coming in, they can only handle a certain speed and thats it, weather or no. The trucks on the road are untarped which would send the bosses right over the edge if they saw that, and if you were dumping feed all over the field like the chopper guy the farmer woud fire you. Drama for the sake of drama, and its too bad because it could have been an interesting and eduactional program, much like deadliest catch started out as.The combine king what a joke, 3 machines on the prarie does not a king make, we had 10 and the guy I worked for wasnt even in the top 10 at that time the king had 28 L3 gleaners, and I am sure there are crews as big if not bigger today. If you watch it,please be aware thats nothing like the real thing. The reality of break downs and weather is not a harvest issue, its a evryday life senerio for every business out working in the great outdoors, and not every storm or malfunction sprials into finacial ruin, the guy with the NH says he is doing it to save the farm yet his take of the harvest was stated at 35,000, sorry but into days finacial picture 35,000 is not going to save his farm, specailly when all the expences are taken out of the opertion, his net would be a couple of grand tops, the most he is getting is his combine payments made so he has newer combines to harvest his own crop.

I agree with what's been said about the drama but I like the drama where basket ball size hail comes a killing and the angry killing combines snatch baby's out of their mothers arms.  Next week is an inferno where most of Kansas is consumed and we are also going to see fist-a-cuffs where crew members beat each other to death.  It's the best farm fiction I've seen in a long time!

The guy I worked for an older guy out of Oklahoma, whose Dad was one of the original combine caravan custom cutter, if you fought with another crew member on the job you were fired right there right now. There were fights after wards, and in bars, a job like that where we would work from  7am until sometimes 2 am before the elevators would cut you off, does get to wear on a crew, after time, but after about the first 2-3 weeks the people bond into a family, and the guys that dont fit the family didnt last very long. Even on the harvest run assault is still against the law, and those small towns are really happy for the most part to see you pull in, it was when money started to flow again, but you were also representing your employer, which these guys take pretty serious, the trucks, service trucks, combines , trailers etc had to look good and so did the crew and when you were in town you were expected to be on your best behavior, plus the towns were watching for trouble, because it does have a tendancy to come along with the crowds in that type of work. When we hit Canada we stayed for 3 days as the whole crew was checked over by the Canadian authorities before they let you into there country, and a couple of our crew wasnt allowed in, for something that showed up in there past.

I have Rick Yemm from IRT on facebook and hes been mad about the last season history did and says he's not going back. They take what you say while talking to them out of context and they cut clips from different parts of the season together to make a small thing look more dramatic.

I wouldn't hire Rick to drive a lawn mower, or Hugh for that matter, those two beat the hell out of what ever they drove.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I dont think Hugh did, I think it was added for drama, if you remember in the past he has his own truck originally the crowsnest, that got hit on the side by another driver, the 2nd year he drove for Caltran in Canada a freightliner, and he was the no 1 driver load wise, last year he drove that Kenworth, that Dave drove this year and said it was a POS, but Hugh drove it all season with no problems, and this year he was back in his own truck, and it was down once for maintance, when he drove that Mack. The begining of this season the deal with the trailers was a bunch of BS, if you remember the side of his truck said Polarbear transit on the sleeper which was the supposedly second trucking company he worked for. So why was the polarbear transit decals doing on his maiden voyage with this other trucking company trailer, I believe it was just added drama, and now they carried it to IRT deadliest roads.  Last year they were all hitting the mountain sides with the trucks and smashing them up and there was no mention on how rough the drivers were. Rick Yemm on the other hand I wouldnt hire, he talks a big game but doesnt have the stones to play it.

Did you guys catch the phrase "older" machines when they referred to the farmer that had the 2 New Holland combines (maybe 5 years old)? I guess the 1996 R62 I run would be an antique ................

Speaking of shows, we never did get that one in Canada. I also tried and failed to get RFD-TV here.
But I do get The Rural Channel. All programming from the western prairies of Canada.
It has a show called Machinery of The Past. Lots of nice stuff there and they have had a lot of Allis Chalmers collections featured on it.

A wheat harvesting crew or 2 and a silage chopping outfit with all the extra drama like Ice Road Truckers and the one on logging that history channel has done more recently. Evan  with all the BS just not exciting for TV I guessWinkWinkWink.

I am sure your sticking a combine and Shameless being the boss might bring it back to prime time.LOLLOLLOL
