Well,,I can truthfully say I had a tooth dug out this morning,,,,,and was very painful even tho the dentist used the shots to numb bout half my face,,,,,,
Ya see,,bout a week ago,,I cracked a corner of a bottom tooth when eating a pork chop and it was loose but still hanging on and very painful,,,! I musta hit the bone just right. Anyway it kept gettin worst so finally got an appointment with a dentist and it was a good thing he was young and strong,,,cause the battle was fixin to start,,,,,,Wink
He gave me bout 6 shots around it , waited 12 minutes and started to push the gums away from the tooth,,tellin me what all he was doing,,,til I finally asked him to not tell me nuttin and just go to work,,!! After several attempts at pullin it,,he got a tool with a water spray and started cuttin it in half,,,he cut and cut for some times til he had to cut it all the way down to get it to come out. Then he did something I had never had done and I've had prolly 6 extractions, he took and put in 3 stiches to close it up so he musta left a big hole,,,!!! The whole procedure was kinda touchy due to my hi blood pressure and me taking Plavix . After he put stitches in he told me I was still bleeding and that had to stop before they could turn me loose. I was not hurtin too bad as still had the numbing drug going on but my face was pretty swelled up. He told me another NEW thing,,,to get some "Black Tea" bags, put 2-3 of them in some warm water and put in the hole as the Black Tea would help stop the bleeding pretty quick.  I stopped by walmart, got some Black Tea bags and put 3 of the wet bags in the hole and I'lll tell ya'll for sure,,,bout 5 minutes later,,,the bleeding stopped,,!! He had also told me to NOT fall asleep while I had the tea bags in mouth,,and I was sure wantin to take a nap!!! Took a Acetaminophen/Hydrocodon and felt pretty dang good til a few minutes ago when it finally wore off,,,so in goes another of them miracle pills,,,,,ClapClap It pretty easy to get to liking them hydrocodones, but I've only taken 2 and don't think I'll need any more.
 I didn't get amything done today,,,darn it,,!!!

i know all bouts them tooth pullin dudes! my dentist also told me bout the tea bag thing too, and yep it worked! bestest thing i ever did was finally just have all them tooths yanked out and new store bought tooths replacing them! no more tooth aches, only thing...that in the summer them falsies get HOT inside your mouth, so i usually go without them. but that's o-k, i can still eat without them. glad you are on the mend Joe! and yep...them hydros is a good thing!

I had another one yanked out a couple of months ago. Never does hurt much. I just wad up a paper towel and stuff it in there.
Told the doc I had to get something in there cuz I'm starting to look like the locals. Only thing missing is the chaw running down my chin.
Got some of the fillers a week ago.
Not to bad after a day or so getting used to them.
Had some pizza for the first time in a long time without cutting it up in little pieces.
Tired of eating gruel all the time.

You know, after reading all the nightmare stories about dentists on this site, it is nice to hear someone had a good experience. Surgical extraction of a tooth on an anti coagulated patient is not an easy thing to do. He is a keeper. New York State pressures us not to give narcotics for extractions but a surgical extraction really needs a couple of vicodin for the first day or so. Glass you you are doing well.

Glad you didn't go thru what I did.  When I was in the AF they decided my wisdom teeth needed to come out.  They wasn't workin anyways.  Two on top came right out, two on the bottom not so much.  That little dentist climbed up on my chest and took s hammer and chisel and proceeded to bust them up.  He would count to three and take a wack at it, and then he would dig at it to get the pieces out.  Then he had to do the other side.  I'm guessing it took close to four hours to get them two teeth out.

Sounds about like it was for me when I was 19 and had all of mine taken out. They knocked me out for it. Tops never did hurt after but the bottoms gave me grief for a couple of weeks.
My dad took me and I know in the wake up area I was talking all kinds of chit he didn't need to know about. That's what I remember in retrospect. Yeah well....
I went to work the next day. They gave me some pain pills for 10 days and went through them in 4.
Was in bad shape after the happy wore off. 19 and indestructible or so I thought at the time.

setting here trying to get into dentist all morning as have a tooth bothering me something fierce - called ASPEN Dental - first thing they wanted was financial info - and said they might find me a appointment by next Wed or Thurs or could put name down for a cancellation -
Said I had dental insurance - NO GO they said they don't take that one as they don't pay a high enough rate to cover their costs . But they had a financial plan I could apply for through their credit card to cover procedures

Instead of mouth wash, you should use hydrogen peroxide ( 3%) diluted  with water to  1.5 - 2%.......that kills EVERYTHING in your mouth.. Once a day and you dont have infections or a lot of things that cause tooth aches.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Sure hope things improve for you. I worried about going through that all fall, cause with the covid it took forever to get appointments out here. Had expensive already root canaled tooth start acting up in summer. Only the specialist will pull a tooth out here. Finally got to the young fellow and payed a bit extra to be asleep while he worked in Jan finally.

An a thank you to dr p for offering to work me in if I got in trouble out here. Wink If it got as bad as Joe is having might have had to make the trip.

that is funny about the high rent district. You look out the side window of my office and you see the cow pasture, the view out the rear window is a parts rotobaler, forage box for parts and my pto rake.  I need to get a farm

My jaw is sore and swollen but the pain left He had me take 3 ibuprofen and 2 extra strength tylenol every six hours said he was just back from a seminar and said it was as good as Tylenol3 or Vicaden and it is and is not addicting Took it every 6 hours I was skeptical but it really does work.

The motrin 600 mg and extra strength tylenol every six hours is my get out of jail free card. Hydro's don't get you out of pain, they just make not care that you are in pain.

What use to be the best is teo extra strength tylenol and a big dose of goodies headache powder. That had caffeine in it which seemed to help. No idea why

Hey Dr P,,,I have some 600 Mg Gabapentin left over from some other ailment,,,how do these compare with the  Hydrocod/IBU 7.5-200 the dentist RX'ed for me??  I really don't want to use the Hydros unless I'm really hurtin and really don't want to take em,,,just yet. I know the Gabapentins ain't as strong but would a couple of the Gabapentin 600 s be like one Hydro,??

Gabapentin is a pain medication but more directed for nerve pain . Good med for things like shingles or restless leg syndrome. Hydrocodone is a narcotic usually combined with a NSAIDs like tylenol or motrin. If you were my patient, I would tell you to take motrin during the day and use the hydrocodone when you go to bed. You want the sedation when you want to sleep.
