Anybody like watching these old Shootem Ups and Cowboys and Indians movies On GRIT TV? They had a bloody one last week on Range Wars between the Cowboys and Sheepherders.
I get tired of all the VIOLENCE real quick.

I really enjoy the movies, tired of the same old commercials. I am always amazed at how accurate those old cowboys were shooting a pistol from the hip with the barrel pointing up, and they do get on an Audie Murphy kick every once in a while. I don't see the violence you refer to, ever see one of these newfangled zombie shows? Back when these movies were made there was no PC crowd.

With them old movies nine shots out of a six gun is a pretty good clue they are not altogether realistic to begin with.

Always a hansom well endowed woman co-star in every episode. They look unrealistic to me. Way to much makeup for the times.

Didn't Ted Turner get the rights to those old westerns at one time and colorize them? With the big screen HD tv's you can see that they overdid the makeup and some of the outfits as well.

Possible JW. He got a lot of stuff to do that to.
Walker, the carried extra cylinders and popped them in when you weren't looking. Lots of those old ones had the double stacker cylinders. You loaded TWO shells in, one behind the other. EVERYBODY knew that.... BUT, I DO have a revolver that has an 8 shot cylinder.... |

And did you notice that back in the day, there are no visuals stating that no animals or actors got hurt during the filming of these? Makes ya wonder.... |

Maybe some of the bloodshed was real. How do you get a chair busted over your head and not even get a scratch.

Breaking the chair..... I saw a HILARIOUS display of that one time. In a bar, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, about 1986 or 7. Hardly anybody in the place. Me and 2 buddies at one table, all the way across the room was a table of 2 couples. Couldn't hear each other talking, but all of the sudden one of the guys shoves back from the table, yells, "WELL F... IT THEN!" He stood up, grabbed his chair, and swung it over his head and down as hard as he could as if to break it on the table. . . . . . . it didn't even creak. All I could picture was like Wyle Coyote or Sylvester or something in a cartoon trying to break something with a sledge hammer and you just get the phtddddddd.....and they vibrate off the cliff. I was laughing so hard I was about crying. The guys I was with were telling me to shut up thinking the dude might come over to fight or something. I couldn't help it though!!!! Saw the whole thing develop!!! Laughing about it again now!!!

I watched it for the last couple years and think I've seen every one of the shows at least 3 times. Still flip over to MeTV for Gunsmoke every day and watch Cozi TV for Cheyenne and Wanted Dead or Alive lots of times. WAGON TRAIN too I have seen every rifleman show at least 3 times too.
Did ya ever notice, when a wagon goes thru town, the tracks it leaves are the ONLY tracks in the dust on the street Lately I've caught a few good shows on one or the other of the Public TV stations I get. Sometimes there is something other than Left Wing views on public TV, like the story of Mussolini, or a Nature show once in awhile. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 28 Jan 2019 at 11:44am |
